Review and giveaway: Miffy book collection from The Book People

I love introducing my two girls to collections of books that I enjoyed as a child and The Book People is one of my favourite bookseller sites for finding various collections at affordable prices. We have previously bought the full collections of Mr Men, Little Miss and Beatrix Potter books through their website although there was one classic character from my early childhood that I had yet to fully introduce the girls to – Miffy the rabbit. Other than using Miffy goes to Hospital to help prepare Jessica for a cardiac catheter procedure last year, Miffy had been noticeably absent from our storybook collection – something that I was very happy to rectify when The Book People invited me to review the Miffy bag collection – a collection of six Miffy books in a small canvas bag with a picture of Miffy on the front.

There are six books in the collection – Miffy, Miffy’s Birthday, Miffy and the New Baby, Miffy in the Snow, Miffy at School and Miffy at the Zoo. Within minutes of giving the girls the bag of books they were both happily sitting together on the sofa, looking through all the pictures in the books. Sophie loved pointing out the different shapes she could see in the pictures whereas Jessica is now at the age where she tries to talk through the story by looking at the pictures. After they’d had some time to look through the books, we sat on the sofa together to read one of the books together and the girls enjoyed it so much that we ended up reading all six books in one go!

I love the simplicity of the pictures and the way the story is told through rhyme. At 24 pages long (with four lines of verse and an illustration on each double-page spread), the stories are the perfect length for my girls to enjoy – keeping their attention throughout the story whilst being short enough to allow more than one to be enjoyed at bedtime. The different experiences that Miffy has in each book are a wonderful way for helping prepare preschool children for similar events in their lives – for instance Miffy and the New Baby would be a great book for helping prepare a child for the arrival of a new sibling; and I am sure that Miffy at School will be read many times in the run-up to Jessica starting school next year.

Books that come in a little bag are always popular with Jessica and Sophie as they love to be able to carry their books around and take them places. This set has already been taken with us on various trips to visit friends and family and has very quickly become a firm favourite with the girls.
