Heart to Heart linky was set up to help other heart families share their stories and experiences in order to help support each other as a community. It opens on the 15th of each month and stays open for a week so there is plenty of time to share your CHD-related posts. You can share as many posts as you like – old posts or new posts, updates on how your heart child is progressing, poems, advice – whatever you like as long as it is related to life as a heart family. If you would like to add the code below to your post that would be great and please do visit other posts in the link too! I’ll also try and share posts on Twitter – and will try and retweet those with the hashtag #hearttoheartlinky
Yesterday was one of Jessica’s heart days – four years ago, she had her second open-heart surgery. I remember vividly how my hubby helped to put up the Christmas decorations on the ward while we waited and how endless the wait felt at the time. Our relief at seeing her on PICU after the surgery was over was short-lived as her sats plummeted moments later and the surgeon had to re-open her chest on the unit to remove a blood clot. We were whisked out of the room, both of us utterly convinced that we were about to lose her. Thankfully, Jessica came through it all and was moved out of intensive care on Christmas Eve. Our first Christmas Day as a family was spent in hospital, but the memory of it all is still a very special one. We were just so thankful that the three of us were together that nothing else mattered.
Thank you to everyone who linked up last month. Heart Mammi shared an update on how Martha Grace has been recovering from her latest heart surgery; Heart Mummy shared a summary of the #MatExpHour discussion about breastfeeding support on paediatric wards and Beth in a Box shared a beautiful letter to her 3 month old, reflecting on preparing for surgery, as she watched her sleeping in her hospital cot. Beth and her family are still waiting for surgery and about to spend Rainbow’s first Christmas in hospital and my thoughts and prayers are with them.
I have added posts previously linked up to Heart to Heart on my Pinterest board as well as sharing other CHD-related posts. If you would like an invite to pin to it, please do let me know. This month I am sharing a reflection on that first Christmas which was also recently published on The Mighty. Looking forward to reading your heart-related posts this month.
