For the last two years, I have taken part in a daily gratitude challenge – sharing one photo a day on Instagram of something I am grateful for. It’s taught me to look for the little things and has made me a more positive person. It has not always been easy to find something to be grateful for each day though, especially since losing my beautiful daughter Jessica in April.
One of Jessica’s godmothers once described her as a “joy carrier”. It was, and still is, such a wonderful description. She might have only had half a heart, but it overflowed with love and she brought sunshine to all who knew her. She taught me how to be strong, how to live each day to the full and how to find joy in the challenging moments. I continue with this challenge each day in honour of her.
Day 140 – I am grateful that we were able to attend the Little Hearts Matter memorial event today and hang a heart on the LHM tree in memory of our little Jessica.
Day 141 – I am grateful for the suggestion of creating a “safe space” for Sophie. She has been doing a lot of hiding under the table lately particularly when she sees us getting upset. She now has the little princess tent that she and Jessica loved which is set up in Jessica’s old bedroom, and filled with Jessica’s blanket, cushions, some of Jessica’s favourite toys (plus Kerry2 as Jessica’s Kerry will forever be with Jessica) and photos of Jessica. Sophie has spent most of the afternoon there and seems quite happy to have this little space to go and sit in.
Day 142 – I am grateful for time outdoors seeing the pretty rhododendrons at Langley Park and watching Sophie have fun on her scooter and at the playground.
Day 143 – I am grateful for the beautiful roses that are blooming in the garden and a little helper to keep them watered. Just need to get weeding again though!
Day 144 – I am grateful for new pyjamas and Jessica cushions to cuddle.
Day 145 – I am grateful for a lovely catch-up with Godmummy Katy at soft play.
Day 146 – I am grateful for a lovely walk around Black Park with a friend.
