Word of the Week – Kaleidoscope

It’s been quite a mixed week this week, and so my word of the week is:

WOTW17

Just a big mixture of the little moments that make up the kaleidoscope of life as a parent. We’ve had:

  • Exasperating moments – the night when both girls decided to resist sleep at bedtime for over three hours and finally went to sleep at 11pm.
  • Exhausting moments – when a very tired Mummy decided to get an early night – at which point Sophie woke up and stayed wide awake until 1.30am!
  • Infuriating moments – being beeped by an impatient bus driver whilst crossing a pedestrian crossing because my toddler was walking across too slowly for his liking.
  • Worrying moments – Sophie nearly choking on a sticker.
  • Funny moments – serving up nachos for lunch and having Jessica complain that the crisps were “dirty – clean them, pweeze, Mummy!”
  • Adorable moments – Jessica asking Sophie tenderly “are you all right Sophie sweetheart?”
  • Joyful moments – celebrating Jessica’s third birthday.
  • Precious moments – big cuddles on the sofa and being told “love you Mummy”
  • Proud moments – hubby’s reflections on being a heart dad being printed in the Little Hearts Matter newsletter.
  • Subdued moments – with Jessica being a little under the weather on Monday and mostly wanting to lie on the sofa all day and watch CBeebies – thankfully she was back to her usual self on Tuesday.
  • Bittersweet moments – looking at Sophie and suddenly realising I can see more of the little girl she is becoming than the baby she once was.

Plus many, many ordinary moments of just sitting together, playing with toys, playing out in the garden, going shopping for new shoes, reading stories together and just getting on with everyday life.

  1. Ah, yes, this is parenting, isn’t it?! A mix of everything, emotions al over the place, always the tiredness, mixed in with joy and happiness. Love the nachos comment, not loving that bus driver! Thanks for sharing with #WotW

    1. Definitely. It’s really been a mixture of everything this week with nothing really being the overall defining moment of the week. Lovely to link up as always 🙂

  2. Why is it that when you want an early night they decide they want to stay up till all hours? I’ve had that this week too! Great choice of word 🙂

  3. I love this! What a perfect word to sum up a week of parenting! There’s a linky there – our kaleidoscope weeks! Can’t believe the bus driver – totally out of order. As is the non-sleeping – why do they do it?! Hope this week is a little less mixed for you all.

    1. Thank you – like the idea of a kaleidoscope linky! It’s been a little less mixed this week – had a bit more sleep which has helped! 🙂
