The Friday Focus 08/05/15

With yesterday’s general election and the opening of nominations for the MAD awards, this week feels like it has been all about voting. As you read this, the votes in the general election will have been counted and the results will be being declared. The future of the NHS has been a key issue for me with this election and I hope that it will still be here by the time the next election comes around irrespective of whoever is in power.

The Friday Focus 08/05/15 - this week's word of the week is 'voting' - Little Hearts, Big Love

I’ve voted for my favourite blogs in the MAD awards and have received my first nomination in the Preschool category which I was very chuffed about. If you enjoy reading my blog, I would love it if you could consider nominating me for a MAD award – you can vote for your favourite blogs here.

Out and About:

We had a lovely afternoon out as a family at Rickmansworth Aquadrome at the weekend and bumped into a couple of friends who we hadn’t seen since our university days – so lovely to catch up with them.

Sophie enjoyed a little time at toddler group while Jessica was at nursery although decided to take a nap partway through! I quite enjoyed sitting and chatting with the other mums whilst getting to have sleepy cuddles though.

Fun at home:
Hubby and I thought we’d have an attempt at clearing out the garden over the weekend as it is becoming increasingly overgrown. We managed to cut back some of it and have cleared the weeds around the roses although couldn’t cut the grass as the lawnmower wouldn’t start. Hopefully it will get fixed soon. Jessica had a wonderful time hunting for bugs underneath stones and both girls enjoyed getting the Little Tikes car out although it wasn’t easy to drive over the long grass.

Time for me:

I had a lovely evening going out for a meal friends on Saturday night while hubby stayed at home with the girls. Getting to meet my friends’ three month old baby girl was a highlight of the evening – I must be getting more sleep these days as having cuddles with her was making me feel quite broody!

On the blog:

Sunday marked the four year anniversary of the start of our journey as a heart family. Blogging has been one of the things that has really helped me through the last four years – I started blogging about Jessica’s journey whilst pregnant and this eventually led to me starting this blog just over a year ago.

My happiest moment:
Sophie giving me big kisses and laughing at me asking “and another one?” each time she gave me a kiss – it was the funniest thing ever as far as she was concerned and the combination of kisses and joyful laughter was just perfect.

Next week I would like to:

I’m looking forward to celebrating my birthday tomorrow with my twin sister and my family and then going out for a meal with hubby’s family on Sunday – let the birthday weekend commence!

  1. What a week for you. WOW.
Congratulations on the MADS nomination. Also how adorable are your girls? We also have that car! So pleased you got to have some me time – very important. Kat xx

  2. Congrats on the nomination. Well deserved! Your week has lots of fab things, kisses, cuddles with a little baby and girly time. Perfect. Hope you have a lovely birthday next week xx #wotw

  3. Great #wotw its so important to vote for what you believe in, and to respect that not everyone has the same beliefs too – and that’s ok. The most important thing though is to use your vote. Have a fab weekend.

    1. Thanks Stephanie – definitely agree that using your vote is the most important thing.

  4. Great word, and well summed up. Looks like you’ve had a fun week, that photo of Sophie napping is just gorgeous. Kisses and laughter is always wonderful, too, isn’t it? Hope you have a brilliant weekend and a fabulous birthday x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

    1. Thanks Iona, I did have a lovely birthday weekend – was a good (if short-lived) antidote to the election blues.

  5. Awww!! Baby girl cuddles has to be the best, so sweet that she fell asleep during play ground- bless her. Congratulations on your nomination – exciting! It’s great bumping into people you haven’t seen in a while, I love catching up. Completely agree about the NHS, they cared for a friend this week who had a serious scare – so thankful! Have a lovely weekend and Happy Birthday xxx

  7. Happy Birthday, and congratulations on the nomination its all so exciting isn’t it? Joe had the yellow version of that car when he was little and loved it x

  8. The NHS is a big worry for me too. As an American, I grew up in a privatised system. My family was always lucky to have good care because my dad’s job came with good insurance, but I saw friends and extended family struggle. Since moving to the UK, I’ve grown to love the NHS. Sure, it has its problems – but at least people don’t have to worry about losing their home to get cancer treatment, or have to decide *which* finger they want sewn back on because they can’t afford to have them all. It’s scary that something that should be so basic is at risk.

On to happier thoughts – that photo of Sophie sleeping is lovely and Jessica’s so cute in her car. Have a great week.

    1. The NHS situation is worrying – it is far from perfect but having a system where people don’t have to decide whether or not they can be treated for something based on whether they can afford it is something that is worth fighting for.

  9. Hope you’ve had lovely birthday celebrations. It really has been a week of voting hasn’t it? I’m frightened for the future of the NHS as a result general election. Well done on the nomination – best of luck to you and all for the blogging awards xxx #WotW

Haha, I love the comment about you ‘must be getting more sleep’. I always seem broody and I think that’s because I have such a good sleeper. I have to remind myself that I might not be so lucky next time! 😉

    1. Thank you so much Jenna – I think broodiness does come more easily when getting a reasonable amount of sleep! Lovely to link up to #HappyDaysLinky again 🙂

  12. It did feel like it was ll about voting last week. I must admit I wasn’t happy with the outcome I have a feeling it might mean we need to continue to fight. A big congratulations on your nomination. I hope you had a great birthday weekend x

    1. I think more fighting with the things we care about post-election may well be needed. Thank you for the congratulations and I had a lovely birthday weekend 🙂
