Getting photos of my two girls together for the Siblings project is becoming more and more of a challenge these days. If I try and get them to pose for a shot, there is always one (usually Sophie!) looking away, frowning or looking grumpy, throwing themselves on the ground or trying to run away. The trick now is to try and take photos of them together doing things without them being aware of the camera – much easier said than done as there’s usually about a five-second window before the camera is spotted and the moment abruptly ends! I often have to resort to tricks to get them to look at the camera – “Look! What’s that over there?” and then quickly snap away – but they are rapidly getting wise to this too!
I thought a day out at Legoland for the first day of the season would be the perfect opportunity to try and get some nice photos of my girlies together – knowing that the rides and the Miniland models would be the perfect distraction from the camera and that having fun would increase the chances of them being willing to pose for shots too. On the whole, they were a little more co-operative than I think they would have been had we just been at home in the garden and now that the weather is improving, I’m hoping there will be plenty of opportunities to take nice photos of them both whilst out and about.
Jessica (4 years 6 months)
- Was in hospital for three days at the start of the month with low oxygen saturations caused by a chest infection. Thankfully she’s much better now and her sats have come back up again to more normal levels.
- Loves dressing up as a princess – Belle and Anna are her two favourite dresses at the moment.
- Was very concerned about her little sister when Sophie had a couple of days of being poorly and wanted to dress up in her nurse outfit so she could “be a doctor and make Sophie all better.”
- Will happily spend ages drawing or “making” – there are times when I struggle to keep up with Jessica’s creative output!
- Enjoyed having a photoshoot for Action Medical Research who are funding a piece of research into improving surgery for children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
- Loved seeing snakes and various other creepy-crawlies at a blog event – she was quite fascinated by the millipede and the cockroach and was quite happy to let them crawl over her hand whereas Mummy much preferred to keep her distance and just take photos!
Sophie (2 years 4 months)
- Now has a full set of baby teeth – I’m not entirely sure when the last four molars first appeared but they’re all there now!
- Often comes up to me and grabs my face to give me a big kiss followed by a huge squeeze and “I luz you, Mummy!” which is utterly adorable.
- Can almost count to twenty but often misses out the number nineteen – not quite sure why.
- Loves playing board games – the Gone Shopping game is her favourite at the moment although she hasn’t quite got the gist of it – she will turn a piece over and if it’s not one for her board, she will give it to whoever needs it instead!
- Is now quite confident at doing 12 piece jigsaws (particularly if she’s seen it completed once) and can now do 16 pieces with a little help.
- Loves ‘reading’ books to herself – Stick Man is her current favourite and I love the way she says “Stick Man, oh Stick Man!” as she reads it to herself.
Aww such cuties Louise, love reading about their little loves. Getting photos of the two together where they are both smiling can be a nightmare can’t it? Have to admit that’s why I often go for more candid shots as I just can’t manage it any other way haha xx
Thanks Caroline – the candid shots are definitely easier to take! 🙂
It can be so hard to get a good shot of both of them, can’t it? I feel your pain! You’ve succeeded, though! So sweet that Jessica wanted to look after Sophie and Sophie sounds like a very clever little girl 🙂 x
Being distracted by everything going on at Legoland helped a lot with getting the photos! 🙂
Lovely photos, it’s tough getting two little people in a photo together. I’m hoping we will get to have our first trip to Legoland this year, it looks fab! A lovely update of your girls x
Thank you Laura – hope you manage to get to Legoland, I’m sure your little ones would love it 🙂
They both look like they had a great time in Legoland; I wish we lived closer to an attraction like – our three would love it.
Sophie is starting to look a lot more like Jessica each month isn’t she, especially when both their hair is tied back. It’s lovely seeing how close they are, our Martha and Isabella are great at playing with each other – they are great company for one another.
I’m glad Jessica’s sats are back in her normal range, hope they stay there too! She’s a tough cookie xxx

It is lovely to see that close relationship between them – they definitely get closer and closer with each month. So glad that Martha and Isabella have a similar bond 🙂
We sneaky Mummies always trying to take photos of childhood moments without our children noticing. My son LOVES my camera so lots of shots of him trying to grab it. I hope warmer weather comes soon to improve colds. So sorry to hear that daughter was in hospital. Big hug! We love shopping game but can relate to the giving groceries to other players. Look forward to Spring photos in sunshine soon.
It is a challenge sometimes to get good photos, isn’t it?
I love seeing your little sisters together. They always look like they’re having fun even if they’re not always looking at the camera. Z has become v reluctant with pics and prefers to take them!
Thank you – it is definitely a challenge to get the photos once they start becoming more reluctant to have them taken!
Aww what a lovely set of shots from Legoland – I have one of my girls holding onto the Olivia model too – it’s such a fun place to take photos isn’t it 🙂
The Lego Friends models always get lots of cuddles from the girls whenever we visit – we have quite a few shots of them with them! 🙂
I’m glad it’s not just me that struggles getting these photos. Even my easy sofa photos are getting harder now. Lovely photos of them at legoland, I’m a little jealous that you love so close x
Thanks Jane – it is challenging to get them both looking at the camera, isn’t it?
Getting a decent shot of my four little monkeys together is tough too! When no one is grumpy, one of them is fidgeting (and therefore blurry), has a finger in their nose or looks bored, ha ha! Getting a decent shot of my 4 always results in the photo being printed for the whole family (and anyone who’s ever met us!)
Bless Jessica with the ‘making’! Mine are the same, they always want to make stuff, but end up doing something that will take 3 minutes and leave glitter, pipe cleaners, glue and paint everywhere!
Really sweet that your little lady wanted to be a nurse to look after her big sis.
Those cuddles and I love yous are justso nice. Let’s hope they’re still as keen when they’re teenagers (wishful thinking!). x
Oh I’m with you on the making front – it’s funny how much mess can be generated in a short space of time! It is lovely to see them enjoying themselves though. I can imagine that it must be very challenging to try and get a photo of all of your children together without one of them looking away/fidgeting/picking their nose etc.! x
