From the mouths of babes #119 – Sports Day

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

Thank you to everyone who linked up last week. I loved reading about Jet and Stella’s jokes shared by Nipper and Tyke – they might have a little way to go yet before they could make the comedy circuit but they still made me chuckle.

Jessica with her 3rd place ticket for the obstacle race at her Girls' Brigade sports day - "From the mouths of babes #119 - Sports Day"

Jessica had her Girls’ Brigade sports day last weekend. Sports days are always one of those times when I’m a little more aware of how her heart condition affects her. She’s becoming more aware of that too:

“Mummy, I need to have my water so that when I get tired, I can stop and have a drink, because of my special heart.”

I loved her reasons for wanting me to be there watching her:

“So I can come and give you a cuddle and because I love you.”

Each race was split into the different age groups, with each company able to enter two girls in each category for each of the races. As there were three girls aged 4-5 there from Jessica’s company, she didn’t take part in every race. Her leaders tried to focus on the races that would be less taxing energy-wise for her. Jessica got to take part in the egg and spoon race, the dressing up race and the obstacle race. She was quite happy watching her friends in the “bouncy bouncy race” – otherwise known as the sack race. I think this one would have be quite tiring for her.

Jessica is usually the last to cross the finish line in races, trailing way behind her peers. Thankfully, she’s happy just to take part. I was amazed though when she managed to come third in the obstacle race – and she was in the lead at one point! She was so chuffed to get a certificate for coming third.

“Mummy, look, I got a certificate! Can I take it to school and show all my friends?”

Absolutely! Third place is quite an achievement for a little girl with half a working heart!

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

  1. Awwww bless her heart (literally!). I love her little comment about her ‘special heart’. Your little lady is such a special little girl. Love you, Jessica! Well done for getting 3rd place!
