Jessica’s birthday at the beginning of September always feels like the big transition point in the year. Somehow the change in seasons always feels more acute in September than at any other time. Maybe it is the change in the weather as summer ends and autumn starts. It’s a change that always brings a feeling of sadness. Another beautiful summer has come to an end. Maybe it is the realisation of the passing of time and how quickly my babies are growing up. Maybe it is just having to go back to normality and everyday routines once again.
September also marks the start of one of hubby’s busier periods at work. After enjoying so much family time together over the summer, it always takes some time to get used to this change. Hubby is away so often with work and not always back home for the weekends. With Jessica having started school, there is also the adjustment to not having her home so much in the day. Family time together at the weekend has become even more precious.
Some of the best family moments are those when we are all focused on a particular activity together. We took part in a community fundraising day earlier this month, where we got to build a scarecrow together. The girls had so much fun selecting the outfits for the scarecrow and helping stuff her with straw. We also had a fun morning getting in a festive mood and baking gingerbread hearts for a Christmassy photoshoot. This shot was an unofficial one from my camera!
These family moments are the highlight of September for me. They are the little moments that help carry me through when I find myself struggling to adjust to the changes that this month always brings. It’s not until the end of the month that I really find I start to settle into autumn routines and find my balance once again.
I can completely relate to the feeling of shift in the seasons during September. It’s a strange time of year – sad yet exciting with the approach of those cosy winter months, fireworks, and Christmas…
It’s difficult having to adjust and must be hard with hubby working more. As you say, once you adjust it is generally okay but it’s leading up to that and making the adjustments that can be tough.
Gorgeous festive photo!! Xx
Thanks Rebecca – it is a strange time of year, definitely more of a shift in seasons than at other times and adjusting to it all takes time. Once we’re in Autumn with all the pretty changing leaves, I quite like it though 🙂
I hope that September wasn’t too hard for you and you have managed to adjust. We are definitely trying to find our feet with Alice starting school and the new routine for us all. Lovely family photos of you all. x #meandmineproject
Thanks Laura – it does take some getting used to doesn’t it? We have mostly adjusted to it all now x
Christmas in September looks like it was a lot of fun! And I love your scarecrow; he/she is huge!! You clearly have a knack of cherishing every little bit of family time you get, even in the months when it feels like everyone is flung far and wide, and have some lovely moments because of it 🙂
Thank you Carie – we definitely try to make the most of the time we do get together! 🙂
What gorgeous photos! I love the Christmas baking shot. Xx
Thank you Sarah – it was a lot of fun! 🙂
I really feel that way about September too. school starts, the nights draw in and suddenly summer is over – although I have quite been enjoying this milder weather too! x
I always feel that way about September too – I’m sure autumn comes on more quickly than any other season, and I always mourn for summer. I always end up embracing it in the end, but it always take me a bit of time to accept it. Love your shots here – your scarecrow is fab! And the family Christmas baking looks like great fun.
As I’m reading the Me and Mine posts, we are all saying the same, that September has been manic and about change. I was just saying yesterday with a friend that September always feels like the real start of the year. Roll on October and Halloween! 🙂 x
It’s definitely a common theme for the September Me and Mine posts, isn’t it? I’m with you in that September always feels more like the start of the year.
Ha gorgeous happy shots Louise. It is funny adjusting to the older ones starting school isn’t it? Definitely makes family time at weekends more precious! Xx
Gosh check you out getting festive already! Very organised!! #meandmineproject x
Ahh looks like you all are having such a great time together. What lovely captures. Great moments to document this month. #meandmineproject
Oh fabulous photos of you all and I just love the scarecrow! You’ve inspired me to make one with my girls some time!
