September is a very big month for us as a family – celebrating Jessica’s birthday and two of her heart days (one being on her birthday and the other just a week later). It’s a time when I find myself reflecting a lot about the journey we have been on as a family and the rollercoaster ride. It’s a time of great joy and thankfulness – seeing how well Jessica is currently doing and knowing how far we have come – but also a time when the reality of the journey hits me a little harder and the fear that lurks within comes to the surface once more.
That fear, which we live with as heart parents, is even more acute when our children are about to face their next heart surgery. This coming week will see Gemma, who blogs at Heart Mammi, stepping back on to that rollercoaster as her two-year-old daughter Martha Grace is due to have a CT scan under GA tomorrow (Wednesday) followed by her fourth open heart surgery on Thursday. Please keep Martha-Grace and her family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
Support and community are two of the things that I feel are very important as a heart parent – the knowledge that we are not alone in our journeys and that there are others who can empathise. It is one of the reasons why I set up my Heart to Heart linky – to help other heart parents to share their stories and the experiences and to help support each other as a community.
Heart to Heart opens on the 15th of each month and stays open for a week so there is plenty of time to share your CHD-related posts. You can share old posts or new posts, updates on how your heart child is progressing, poems, advice – whatever you like as long as it is related to life as a heart family. If you would like to add the code below to your post that would be great and please do visit other posts in the link too! I’ll also try and share posts on Twitter – and will try and retweet those with the hashtag #hearttoheartlinky
Thank you to everyone who linked up last month. I have added posts previously linked up to Heart to Heart on my Pinterest board as well as sharing other CHD-related posts. If you would like an invite to pin to it, please do let me know.
Looking forward to reading your heart-related posts this month, and sending love and prayers to Martha Grace and her family for the next step on their journey xx
