Friday Focus 29/03/2024 – Gentler

After the emotional rollercoaster and exhaustion of the last few weeks, this week has felt gentler – at least as far as grief is concerned and my capacity to cope with things that are going on around me. It’s a lull in the storm which no doubt will build again over the next couple of weeks as we get closer to the anniversary of Jessica’s death.

The word 'gentler' in lilac bubble writing

Sophie and Thomas have broken up for the Easter holidays. I’m looking forward to having the time with them. It dawned on me while dropping Thomas off on the last day of term that this is the first time I’ve had a child get to the end of the winter term in Year 1 at school. Jessica’s last day was a couple of days before the end of term as she was too poorly to finish the term, and Sophie’s winter term in Year 1 finished early due to the Covid lockdown.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Thomas stirring cake batter in a mixing bowl; theatre programmes for 'Les Miserables Schools Edition' and 'Spamalot'; Thomas in the spinning bowl at the park; a travel mug on a wooden table; the painted stones around Jessica's roses in the garden; Sophie and Thomas riding their scooters; Thomas wearing his Easter bonnet - "366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 13"

  • Day 82 – I am grateful that Thomas enjoyed helping Mummy do some baking.

  • Day 83 – I am grateful for an afternoon and evening enjoying two fantastic am-dram productions. Well done to all involved.

  • Day 84 – I am grateful for time at the park with Thomas.

  • Day 85 – I am grateful for time spent chatting with a friend over lunch.

  • Day 86 – I am grateful for time to clear the weeds around Jessica’s roses.

  • Day 87 – I am grateful for scooters and trips to the park.

  • Day 88 – I am grateful for the start of the Easter holidays.

  1. I am glad you have had a gentler week. It does sound like it’s going to be the calm before the storm of grief. Sending love and hugs.
It looks like Thomas was a great help with the baking and hooray for the Easter holidays. x

  2. Glad that it’s been a better week. Looks like there was some good outdoor time, and it’s always nice to be able to see friends.

  3. It does sound like a gentle week. Lovely to get out and enjoy being outside. Plus am-dram thrown in. I hope you have an equally gentle week next week and can enjoy the school holiday.

  4. It’s so nice to hear you’ve had a gentler week. I had a giggle at seeing those two drama posters together, how different can you get with Les Miserables and Spamalot. I’ve seen Les Mis. (and watched it on television at the weekend) but I think I should see Spamalot to remind me of my childhood. We always used to watch Monty Python.
I’ll be thinking of you over the next few weeks x
