It’s been a quiet week for us with Sophie away on her school residential trip this week. It’s felt very strange not having her home and we’ve missed her, but have been grateful for the photos that school have shared which suggest that she’s having a wonderful time doing all the various activities on offer.
Thomas has coped surprisingly well with Sophie being away. We had a few tears on Monday morning when he went off to school, and he’s been counting down the days until she gets back, but overall he’s been quite chilled out about it all. I think it’s also helped that my husband has been working from home some of this week and Thomas has quite enjoyed getting the extra time with Daddy, especially given that he’s been away so much recently.
While I’ve very much missed having Sophie home, I have to confess that it has been quite nice not to be rushing around quite as much in the evenings after school taking Sophie to her various activities! Other than rehearsals for Wind in the Willows, our evenings have been quite quiet. It’s been good for me to have the space to recharge a little – ready for the madness to begin again once she’s home again tomorrow!
I’ve also managed to have some quiet time for myself this week – spending an afternoon drawing and designing some cards and spending some quiet time with Jessica.
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 285 – I am grateful that Sophie’s hard work has paid off and super proud of her for passing her 11+ exam.
- Day 286 – I am grateful for pistachio Lindor.
- Day 287 – I am grateful for 24 years of us.
- Day 288 – I am grateful for a later start for Sophie and being able to go out for breakfast before she headed off for her residential trip.
- Day 289 – I am grateful for my husband having a day working from home.
- Day 290 – I am grateful that a quieter week means a bit more time to cook.
- Day 291 – I am grateful for getting out for a walk on a beautiful autumn afternoon.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Playing the organ for the service at church for the first time.
- Singing a solo and a duet in a concert.
I hope Sophie has enjoyed her time away. It’s nice to get some quiet time occasionally, your life always seems so busy to me, but I guess mine was too when my children were young.
Sometimes a quiet week is just what you need especially this time of year with so much going on.
I think Sophie will have had an amazing time at the residential, my son went last year and still talks about the things he did now.
Jessica’s pink flowers are beautiful.
I am also very grateful for Pistachio Lindt but I do wish they would release the coconut ones too.
Thank God for quiet days and even though you’ve missed your daughter you have some down time. Appreciate it all before the rush begins again.
Are poor Thomas, the house must have been so quiet without Sophie there. Well done to Sophie with her 11+ what does this mean for her school wise now. What beautiful flowers for Jessica.
