Friday Focus 15/03/2024 – Struggling

I’ve been struggling this week. It’s a tough time of year with all the memories of the last few weeks of Jessica’s life coming to the forefront. Mother’s Day is also an emotional day for me and one I struggle with. I did have lovely cards from Sophie and Thomas though, and Sophie did a card from Jessica too with some lovely thoughtful words inside, which meant a lot.

The word 'struggling' in grey bubble writing

I’ve had quite a few grief triggers this week. Innocent comments from others which have resulted in flashbacks to some particularly difficult memories. I guess it’s to be expected at this time of year, but it doesn’t make it easier to deal with.

On the plus side, it was reassuring to hear at parents’ evening that Thomas being in the SEN classroom in the mornings has made such a big difference. He’s struggled a lot with school but is now much happier and more settled and has even told me that he likes school which was so nice to hear. He’s been more able to focus on his work when he goes back to his class in the afternoons.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Sophie and her friend dressed as Dogman and L'il Petey; me and my mum; cards and gifts for Mothers' Day; pink flowers on a windowsill; Sophie having a cuddle with Daddy; Thomas playing with his number tiles; orange and yellow tulips at Jessica's forever bed - "#366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 11"

  • Day 68 – I am grateful that Sophie enjoyed being part of a duo for World Book Day dressing up as Li’l Petey with her friend as Dogman.

  • Day 69 – I am grateful for being able to spend time with my lovely mum on her birthday.

  • Day 70 – I am grateful for the lovely Mother’s Day cards and presents from my children.

  • Day 71 – I am grateful for pretty flowers on the windowsill next to my desk.

  • Day 72 – I am grateful for evenings when my husband is home early to help make it easier to juggle activities, homework and everything else that happens in the run-up to bedtime.

  • Day 73 – I am grateful for a really positive parents’ evening for Thomas – so good to see that the extra support that is now in place is making such a difference for him.

  • Day 74 – I am grateful for sunshine and tulips.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Having lunch with a friend.

  • Sophie getting a ‘Brainiac’ award at school for challenging herself during her school trip.

  • Thomas getting a ‘best class costume’ certificate for his World Book Day costume.
