Friday Focus 09/05/2025 – Proud

I’ve had a few proud mummy moments this week with both Sophie and Thomas.

The word 'Proud' in purple bubble writing

Sophie had a busy weekend with Girls’ Brigade activities as she had the junior sleepover weekend followed by a trip into London for the VE Day 80 celebrations on Monday, where she had been selected, along with two other girls from her company, to represent Girls’ Brigade England and Wales at the 10 Downing Street VE Day 80 street party. It’s actually the second time she’s been invited to a party at 10 Downing Street – we were invited to the children’s Christmas party back in 2013 when Sophie was just a few weeks old. This time she’s old enough to remember the experience though! She had a wonderful time and the Girls’ Brigade CEO told us that the girls were a delight to spend time with, which was lovely to hear.

What was also lovely was receiving a message the next day from one of Sophie’s GB leaders telling me how welcoming she’s been to two new members who have recently joined and how she looked out for them both during the junior sleepover weekend.

Thomas has made me proud this week when he received his blue ballet rosette and certificate from the ballet exam that he took back in December. He’s been learning a poem to share as part of the dance show and it was lovely to watch him reading it out at the end of the class.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Me with my university friends; Thomas getting his ballet rosette and certificate; Sophie returning home after the Brigades sleepover; Sophie at the Downing Street VE Day party; a message from one of Sophie's Girls' Brigade leaders; yellow and purple flowers in Jessica's memory vase; me snuggling up with Thomas - "#365daysofgratitude 2025 - Week 19"

  • Day 122 – I am grateful for a lovely evening out catching up with university friends.

  • Day 123 – I am grateful for Thomas receiving his certificate and rosette from his first ballet exam.

  • Day 124 – I am grateful that Sophie enjoyed the Brigades junior sleepover weekend.

  • Day 125 – I am grateful that Sophie was one of three girls selected to represent the Girls’ Brigade at the Downing Street VE Day street party.

  • Day 126 – I am grateful for a lovely message today from one of Sophie’s Girls’ Brigade leaders telling me how Sophie has been so welcoming to two girls who have recently joined.

  • Day 127 – I am grateful for fresh flowers in Jessica’s vase.

  • Day 128 – I am grateful for sleepy snuggles with my boy before school.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Sitting in the garden while Thomas played with his number pebbles.

  • Thomas making himself a “robot”.

  • Rehearsing in costume for the music hall show which I’ll be performing in at the end of the month.

  1. So many reasons to be proud of Sophie and Thomas this week, they are such lovely kids, Louise and always seem so happy to take part in all their activities.
Well done, Sophie, for being chosen to represent the girls’ brigade. I hope she enjoyed her London trip. Well done, Thomas, for your rosette and excellent poem reading.
Jessica’s vase is looking lovely and colourful with fresh flowers in it.
    Wishing you a lovely weekend.

  2. Oh my goodness! How exciting that Sophie was invited to the tea party. I saw it briefly flash up on the news, but I would have looked harder if I’d known she was there. I’m glad she will remember it this time. What a lovely note to receive from her GB leader. Well done Thomas on receiving his rosette and ballet certificate. I loved his robot too. A fun photo with him peeping through the camera (or face) on top. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  3. Oh wow! What an exciting week for Sophie! You have every reason to be proud! Not everyone gets to go to Downing Street and how special it was for VE Day! Aww! Thomas has done so well too with his ballet and reading the poem. The robot he made was fab! x

  4. Sounds like a lovely successful week for all the family. How nice to get the opportunity to be invited to 10 Downing Street! Not many people get to do that.

  5. Getting the Downing Street opportunity must have been amazing for Sophie. And I am happy that Thomas seems to be coming on so well too. You must be a proud mum.

  6. How lucky was Sophie to be invited to Downing Street – I only got as far as the door LOL. Well done Thomas on his ballet rosette too

  7. Isn’t it wonderful when your children make you proud. Sophie is totally amazing and Thomas is a very talented little boy too. Well done to them both and I’m glad they have brightened up your week.

  8. What a wonderful opportunity for Sophie and she so obviously works hard for selection for this opportunity, I’d be beaming all over for half of the achievements from Thomas and Sophie. Lovely colour combinations for Jessicas flowers.

  9. Well done to both Sophie and Thomas! Sophie must have been working very hard to have this opportunity. The word proud is indeed the most suitable for the week.
    The fresh flowers look lovely.
