Friday Focus 16/05/2025 – SATs

This week is SATs week for Year 6 and Sophie has been going in to school a little earlier each morning as her school are providing breakfast for the children in her year before their SATs papers. She’s been quite calm about it all and has come away feeling that they’ve gone well which is good.

The word 'SATs' in blue bubble writing

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

My birthday cards and a birthday cake; a programme for 'Death Comes to Pemberley'; my husband cooking on the barbecue; a pale peach rose; my laptop on my desk at work; Jessica and Sophie splashing in the tuff tray; a mixing bowl with tea loaf batter - "#365daysofgratitude 2025 - Week 20"

  • Day 129 – I am grateful for all the lovely birthday cards, gifts and messages I’ve had today.

  • Day 130 – I am grateful for a lovely meal and afternoon at the theatre with my husband.

  • Day 131 – I am grateful for a lovely evening out in the garden enjoying the first barbecue of the year.

  • Day 132 – I am grateful that the roses are starting to bloom in the garden.

  • Day 133 – I am grateful for a day working in the office while there was electrical work going on in the house.

  • Day 134 – I am grateful for beautiful memories captured in photos and videos. This photo from eight years ago is one of my favourites. We’d been doing some home learning with Jessica finding out what things floated and which sank, which ended up with tuff tray being filled with water and used as an impromptu paddling pool (complete with slide!). The girls got thoroughly soaked and had the best time doing so. I love the joy on Jessica’s face in this photo as she splashes away. Another one of those moments that I wish I could step back into and relive.

  • Day 135 – I am grateful for time to bake.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Having a birthday breakfast date with my husband.

A full English breakfast

  • The pom-pom teddy that Sophie made at Girls’ Brigade.

A pompom teddy bear

  • Thomas announcing that Monday was “Colorballs Day” and wishing me a “Happy Colorballs Day, Mummy!”

  • Sophie getting a Brainiac award at school.

  1. Good luck to Sophie with her SATS results. Jake had them this week too, he’s been so laid back about the whole thing, but I think in part that’s thanks to his school, who make the kids feel positive and relaxed about the tests.
