We’ve had lots of little happy moments this week. Sophie and Thomas had the dress rehearsal for their Brigades’ display last Friday evening and enjoyed taking part in that. I had a lovely day to myself on Saturday and enjoyed an afternoon tea with friends to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday and then had an evening at the theatre seeing some other friends performing in ‘9 to 5’.
Sophie had a dance festival on Sunday and was very happy to come away with three medals – a 3rd place for her modern, 1st place for her musical theatre duet and 3rd place for her lyrical solo.
Thomas has been happy because we bought him a hairpiece while out shopping for some accessories for Sophie and he loves having it in his hair and playing with it. I’m happy because he’s been allowed to have it at school and it’s made a big difference with reducing how much he wants to pull other people’s hair. He wants to grow his hair long now so maybe that will also help.
Sophie and Thomas are also very happy that the half-term holidays are nearly here and that my mum will be coming to stay this weekend!
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 136 – I am grateful for hairpieces and how happy having one has made my hair-obsessed boy.
- Day 137 – I am grateful for a lovely afternoon tea to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
- Day 138 – I am grateful that Sophie’s dance teacher Demi managed to make it to the festival for Sophie’s lyrical solo after going to the wrong venue by mistake. Also very grateful for the team at the festival who moved Sophie to the end of the section to give more time for Demi to get there. This is a particularly emotional dance for Sophie as it’s her special dance for Jessica. She danced beautifully today and placed 3rd. It’s also seven years today since we laid Jessica to rest so a very emotional day for me too.
- Day 139 – I am grateful for a slightly different medal to add to Sophie’s collection after she and her football team-mates finished the season at the top of their league.
- Day 140 – I am grateful that the wild strawberries are starting to ripen in the garden.
- Day 141 – I am grateful for Thomas’s love of music.
- Day 142 – I am grateful for all the pretty roses in the garden.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Playing the piano for the Brigades’ display rehearsal.
- Thomas putting on some glasses because he wanted to look like Jessica.
- Watching videos of Jessica with Sophie.

It’s so lovely to read about all the happy moments this week has brought you all.
Well done to Sophie on her achievements and medals, that’s a fabulous photograph of the girls dancing.
It’s good that the hairpiece is helping Thomas; such a simple solution, but very effective.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the half-term with your mum.
Roses make me happy too. Well done to both Sophie and Thomas for their dress rehearsals and performances. How lovely that the festival could rearrange the order for Demi. Emotional time for you on Jessica’s anniversary and how lovely that Sophie performed her dance on that day too. I like Thomas’s hair piece. I’m glad it’s making him a happy and that the school are accommodating him wearing it. Very understanding. Hope next week has plenty of happy moments for you all. #wotw
So much happy! I love that photo of your daughter dancing – so cool!
What a lovely week with lots of happy moments! How lovely to have a day to yourself and an afternoon tea. What a treat!
Good job to Sophie with the dancing! I did see the photo of Thomas with the hair piece and wondered what it was all about. It is great that it is helping him so much.
Fab photos!
I love the video of the girls playing, how very special. I also love the photos of Sophie dancing and Thomas with his hairpieces. My boy prefers his hair long but it’s such a pain to wash and he doesn’t mind it short either because it means it’s easier for him to look after. My eldest son has long hair too, he just prefers it and he loves washing it, not like the younger one. I love your word this week and yellow is such a happy colour.
Sometimes it’s the simplest of things that can help, I’m really glad school are letting him ear the hairpiece there too. My son refuses to get his hair cut but doesn’t like it being washed. I keep telling him if it’s short it doesn’t take as long to was but what do I know! An afternoon to yourself sounds wonderful!
Big well done to Sophie for all the awards and dancing so beautifully! That’s a striking image of the girls dancing.
Glad the school are not being difficult about Thomas wearing a hairpiece. Hope it helps with all the hair-related sensory issues.
And what a wonderful video memory of Jessica with Sophie.
Little wild strawberries always taste lovely, we have lots growing along the path in the garden.
I found that so emotional watching the video of Jessica singing, her voice is beautiful. So pleased they delayed Sophie’s dance routine in memory of her sister. Hope the hair pieces for Thomas resolve the issue for him.
Amazing achievements for Sophie this week. Sounds like the hairpiece could work well for Thomas, and it’s good that school will let him manage with it. Lovely roses – nice you’ve got them in the garden.
