The brighter, warmer weather this week has definitely had an effect on my mood and I feel like I’m emerging again from the grief-storms and challenging moments of the last few weeks with a bit more energy and positivity.
Getting out and about for a nice walk in the sunshine is always a good way to boost my mood and this week it was wonderful to see that the dragonflies are emerging around the lake at Black Park. I counted over 30 nymph cases on the logs around the lake and saw several newly emerged dragonflies basking in the sunshine. It was amazing to be able to look so closely at them and admire their beautiful wings. I have a soft spot for dragonflies after reading The Dragonfly Story after Jessica died – it was a really helpful book for talking through Jessica’s death with Sophie and I always think of Jessica whenever I see a dragonfly.
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 115 – I am grateful for apple blossom.
- Day 116 – I am grateful that the children enjoyed time with Daddy and Grandad while I had a busy day of meetings.
- Day 117 – I am grateful for godmothers and going out for a girlie lunch to recharge.
- Day 118 – I am grateful for managing to find an acceptable replacement seahorse on eBay for Thomas after the sound went funny on the one he has at bedtime (and the newer model that we tried first was rejected as the music was slightly different).
- Day 119 – I am grateful that the azaleas and rhododendrons are in bloom again at Langley Park.
- Day 120 – I am grateful for Thomas’s creativity and the joy coming up with creative projects brings him. He’s been busy making this “Colorball creative book” over the last few days which is a combination of a flip-flap book with pictures of different ‘colorballs’ and other craft projects that he keeps adding to it.
- Day 121 – I am grateful for getting to see several newly emerged dragonflies up close at the end of a lovely walk around Black Park.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Helping out at Girls’ Brigade.
- Thomas making “rainbow water” at church using coloured crayons and water.
- Sophie mastering wings in her tap lesson.
- Sitting outside in the garden with my laptop – one of the joys of being able to work from home!
- Sophie and Thomas playing with bubbles and having a water fight in the garden.

I love the photo of the dragonfly emerging, there is something about them that seems truly magical. I’m hoping to spot some this year.
It’s brilliant that Thomas accepted the replacement seahorse.
The garden water fight looks like fun, it’s been the perfect weather for it.
Have a lovely weekend x
I am glad you are feeling better emotionally. The sunshine really does boost your mood.
Dragonflies are amazing to see!
Beautiful photos! x
So interesting seeing the dragonflies emerging. I’ve never seen anything like that. Glad the seahorse replacement is right. Looks like it’s been a nice week enjoying the outdoors and sun.
I love Dragonflies too, such beautiful creatures. We get quite a few here as have rivers nearby.
Well done Sophie on mastering her tap lesson, Isaac has expressed an interest in starting but don;t think we can afford anything else
Good to see you emerging too, I love the photo of the dragon fly, they really are beautiful.
I’ve not seen any dragonflies yet. We have lakes near us and dragonflies are often in our garden in the summer. Just not yet. Lovely to watch close up. I’m grateful for the blue sky. It really is a mood lifter.
I’ve never thought of dragonflies as beautiful, don’t ask me why. I think all of us were out in the sunshine too. Lovely to see your little ones enjoying each others company too. Have a fab week ahead.
It is lovely to hear what you are greatful for! I love how close you got to the dragon flies, I find them to be so interesting. The book your son is making sounds neat too.
Glad that this week is more positive! So wonderful to have fun with bubbles in the garden, it brings back lovely memories of my own boys, who are too grown up now for these simple pleasures.
The dragonfly photo is amazing. I haven’t spotted any this year so far.
So pleased you found the replacement toy for Thomas.
I do love dragonflies, don’t see many where we live, saw some red ones in Turkey last year, lovely photo of it. Glad you got the replacement toy sorted, I’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve had to do that over the years.
