Friday Focus 09/02/2024 – Moments

We’ve had some lovely moments this week, starting with Sophie’s dance teacher and dance school appearing on Blue Peter, as part of a feature about super dogs. Sophie’s dance teacher’s dog Bear, is a medical detection dog and was one of the super dogs featured on the programme. Sophie even had a little moment in the spotlight, spending a few seconds explaining just why Bear is so important to the dance school.

My husband was away at the weekend so I thought I’d have a mini-break with Sophie and Thomas and we headed to Hampshire for an overnight stay. We had a lovely afternoon in Southsea enjoying the beach, watching the hovercraft coming in and having fun at the arcades; went swimming and spent time with my family. It was nice to get away even if was just for a short time.

I had a proud mummy moment later in the week when Thomas was awarded the ‘dancer of the week’ trophy in his ballet class. He really enjoys going to ballet, but finds it hard to focus during the class. This week his dance teacher said she could see he was trying really hard with his dancing and awarded him the trophy. He was so chuffed!

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

A Blue Peter badge pinned to Sophie's black ballet cardigan; Sophie and Thomas paddling in the sea in their wellies; serving dishes with vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, meat and gravy on a table; a mug of hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows; Sophie working on her homework at the table with her new Air-Up water bottle in the foreground; a pair of pink knitted leg warmers; Thomas holding his 'dancer of the week' trophy - "#366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 6"

  • Day 33 – I am grateful for seeing Sophie with her dance school on Blue Peter today raising awareness of the wonderful work that Medical Detection Dogs do and why there’s no Flair without superdog Bear!

  • Day 34 – I am grateful for a trip to the beach.

  • Day 35 – I am grateful that dinner times have become much less stressful thanks to having a weekly meal plan on a whiteboard on the fridge and putting everything in serving dishes so the children can choose what they want and how much to have.

  • Day 36 – I am grateful for hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows.

  • Day 37 – I am grateful that Sophie is happy to finally have an Air-Up water bottle having managed to save enough pocket money for one plus a set of watermelon pods.

  • Day 38 – I am grateful to have finally finished making Sophie’s leg warmers for her dance classes.

  • Day 39 – I am grateful for Thomas being awarded the ‘dancer of the week’ trophy in his ballet class for trying really hard at dancing today.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Getting to see Jessica in my dreams. I don’t dream of Jessica very often and it’s always makes me so happy so see her again in my dreams when I do.

  • Time with Thomas at the park while Sophie had her 11+ tuition session.

  1. Well done Sophie and Thomas, you must be really proud. I have only ever seen one hovercraft in my life! I can’t even remember where. I’m glad you had nice break, it sounds like a nice week!

  2. Aww well done to Sophie and Thomas! I don’t blame you for taking the opportunity for a weekend away. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hovercraft in real life! Bet the kids loved it.

  3. Oh wow! Blue Peter and the dance cup. Quite a week for you all. It must have been fun watching the hovercraft come on to the beach. I remember going across the Channel several times by hovercraft. The rising up at the beginning is a strange feeling. I have no idea what an Air-Up water bottle is, so I’m going to look it up. Dreams with Jessica in them must be so special. Hope you have a good week.

  4. Oh wow! I didn’t even realise Blue Peter was still on the go! I always wanted one of their badges when I was a child. How exciting for the dance school to appear on it.
It sounds like you had a lovely break away and well done to Thomas at his ballet class! x

  5. Shining stars, Sophie and Thomas! And time away sounds blissful, so glad you enjoyed it. It’s half term in our area but it sounds like you had it already!

  6. Ah how brilliant seeing the dance school and Sophie on Blue Peter. Well done Thomas for his trophy. Nice to get a break away, we enjoyed staying in southsea when N was younger, and the hovercraft was one was watched quite a bit too.

  7. Well done Sophie on being on Blue Peter, Kai was on last week too! We love watching the Hover Craft in Southsea, I have promised the kids we will go on it this year

  8. What a lovely week for Thomas and Sophie, great achievements for them both and lovely for you to get away for a mini break with them both also.
