Friday Focus 06/12/2024 – Panto

Panto season is here – oh yes, it is! We enjoyed our first panto of the festive season last Sunday when we saw BACCES’s production of ‘Jack in the Beanstalk’. Sophie had her last couple of rehearsals for ‘Snow White’ and her opening performance was yesterday. She was so excited at getting to do panto for the first time and is loving playing one of the dwarfs. She has eleven more performances to go between now and the beginning of January. I’m looking forward to seeing her in the panto on Sunday.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

A pipe organ in a church; my Christmas tree; Elf on the shelf themed shoes; a miniature wooden Christmas tree; a Christmas picture book; Sophie standing in front of a Christmas tree holding a 'Snow White' flyer; a good luck message from Sophie's dance school - "#366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 49"

  • Day 334 – I am grateful for organ lessons.

  • Day 335 – I am grateful that the Christmas tree is up and we are all ready for the start of Advent.

  • Day 336 – I am grateful for finally being able to wear the shoes I bought in the January sales!

  • Day 337 – I am grateful for seeing Jessica’s little wooden Christmas tree in Thomas’s room. It stood next to her PICU cot in the run-up to her first Christmas (which was spent in hospital) and she used to love getting it out and decorating it each year. So many precious memories and seeing it helps me to feel that Jessica is still part of our Christmas traditions and always will be.

  • Day 338 – I am grateful for our Advent book calendar and snuggling up together in my bed reading the day’s book at bedtime and taking it in turns to read each page.

  • Day 339 – I am grateful that Sophie enjoyed the tech and dress rehearsals for panto and is excited for her first show tomorrow.

  • Day 340 – I am grateful that Sophie enjoyed her first panto performance.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Going to the Christmas tree festival with Thomas and his class.

  • Thomas’s delight at making an Advent countdown calendar in Boys’ Brigade.

  1. I haven’t been to a panto in years! I do think they charge a lot more and there are so many of us. I should look out for an amateur one. We have started to visit the youth theatre a lot so maybe they will be doing something. I love your shoes, what little feet you have.

    1. Amateur pantos can be hit and miss but there are some really good ones out there. The BACCES one that we go to every year is as good as some of the professional pantos I have been to.

  2. The Panto’s sound like lots of fun, especially for Sophie performing in one! I hope she has a great time in it.
Those Christmas shoes are fabulous and how clever to get them in the January sales!
Aww! How special to have Jessica’s little Christmas tree in Thomas’s room. x

  3. It sounds like Sophie is enjoying the panto season, she’s certainly going to be busy over the festive season. Thomas looks very proud of his snowman advent, what a lovely fun activity to do.

  4. I don’t think I’ve been to a pantomime here in the UK! If I have, it might be once and very long ago. You are going to have a very busy Sophie for weeks! I’m glad that she enjoys it and it must be so good for her confidence. It sounds so good and much fun. All the best for the festive season.

    1. Thank you. It’s definitely going to be a busy festive season. Hope that the festive season will be as gentle as it can be for you both x

  5. Good luck to Sophie with the Panto. I haven’t booked one this year, didn’t fancy going on my own. Thomas’s advent snowman looks great and those shoes of yours are amazing. I love Jessicas Christmas tree, how lovely to something of hers as part of your Christmas traditions. I kept two of Stephanie’s toys with bells on and will be keeping them in the Christmas decorations box. The grandchildren played with them all weekend and it was lovely to have her name dropped into conversation.

    1. Thank you. That’s lovely that Stephanie’s toys are part of your Christmas decorations and that your grandchildren enjoyed playing with them. I can imagine it was lovely to have her name included in the conversations too. Hope that the festive season is being as gentle as it can be. Thinking of you all x
