Friday Focus 03/05/2024 – Mixed

It’s been quite a mixed week overall. There’s been some nice moments, a fair few stressful moments and some intense grief bursts. It’s 13 years today since we found out about Jessica’s special heart. I’ll always be grateful that it was picked up when it was, and that we had the time we had with Jessica, but the longing for more time is so very intense at times.

The word 'mixed' with a spoon stirring above the 'x'

Sophie’s been feeling the loss more over the last few days as well. All those shared moments that she should have had with her sister, navigating the pre-teen and teenage years together, being able to talk to each other about things. They had such a close bond. She and Thomas are lovely together and have a beautiful bond too, but it’s a very different one to the one she and Jessica had, and would have continued to have.

It’s been a busy week for me, juggling a few too many balls. I’ve been grateful for moments of downtime – getting out for a date night with my husband and seeing a live comedy sketch show, which was very funny, and getting out with my walking group for a nice long walk. Hopefully there’ll be a bit more downtime over the bank holiday weekend!

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Cheese scones on a wire rack; three children at a ballet class; me and my husband on a date night; rhododendrons in bloom; Thomas blowing a dandelion clock; a mug of tea on a garden table; a pink rosebud on a rose bush - "#366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 18"

  • Day 117 – I am grateful for cheese scones.

  • Day 118 – I am grateful that Thomas enjoyed making new friends in his first session in his new ballet class.

  • Day 119 – I am grateful for a date night.

  • Day 120 – I am grateful for a walk in the spring sunshine.

  • Day 121 – I am grateful for dandelions.

  • Day 122 – I am grateful for sitting out in the garden with a cup of tea listening to the birds sing.

  • Day 123 – I am grateful that my roses are now coming into bud.

  1. It’s so nice to be able to get outside and see the flowers coming out isn’t it. Hope you all enjoy the bank holiday weekend.

  2. Ahh! It sounds like a real mixed week.
I remember the day we found out about my girls hearts and it was awful but at least they were here and were generally fit and well. I can’t imagine how you felt with Jessica when she wasn’t even born. Poor Sophie, it must be so hard for her. Sending love and hugs.
That photo of Thomas at ballet is just beautiful and I love his rain coat. x

  3. Oh what a mixed week. Mourning for what could have been is limitless. Sending hugs to Sophie and you all. I still do that with my big sister and she has been gone more than 20 years. Thomas and I both started ballet classes this week. What are the chances! I’m glad that he has found friends (I did too). That is a beautiful photo and a perfect memory to capture. I’m sure organizing a date night is a feat in itself and I am so glad you both enjoyed it. Hope your weekend is quieter but full of fun.

  4. Hope Thomas enjoys his new ballet class – I have signed Sebby up for a trial as he has so much energy, be interesting to see how it goes

  5. I hope that he likes the ballet class.

These anniversaries are painful. I am very sorry that you are going through this. Sending hugs.xx

  6. Lovely to see Thomas making friends at Ballet. Not sure I’ll ever be grateful for dandelions but I enjoy watching the grandchildren ‘tell the time’ when they blow them as long as it’s not in my garden lol. These memories of Jessica must be so hard yet comforting for you all x

  7. It has been nice to get outside this week hasn’t it and I love Thomas’ coat – can’t do bright and colourful with mine anymore
