I thought I’d step out of my comfort zone a little for this week’s prompt – “My favourite season…” and try a different style of poetry from my usual rhyming couplet. This is my first attempt at a Chaucerian roundel on my favourite season of all:
My Favourite Season
My favourite season is the spring
When little lambs are being born
And in the streams I find frogspawn.
In blossomed trees the birdies sing
And herald in the rosy dawn
My favourite season is the spring
My washing on the line doth swing,
The days get longer and more warm
And daffodils grow around the lawn.
My favourite season is the spring.

Well done for trying something new – I think you’ve managed really well! I love spring too, in fact I love all the seasons in this country (although could do without the horrid, damp, nothingy type days!) and think we are lucky to have them – it’s the contrasts between them that make me appreciate what each brings! #theprompt

Oh, I like this, it reads wonderfully. Very cute. I’m stuck on rhyming couplet things at the moment (I have no idea about the technical terms – I do rhymes and haikus and everything else falls into “erm…what?”) It;s good to learn about new structures though and this one is very fitting for your subject matter. Conjured up images of spring for me 🙂 x
Thank you – I don’t really know that much about different types of poetry, just happened to come across this particular style in a writing magazine some time ago and thought I would give it a try. It’s made me tempted to try and find out more about different types of poetry and step outside of my comfort zone a bit more – glad you liked it 🙂
