Word of the Week 18/07/14 – Crawling

Life has suddenly become a lot more fun this week as Sophie has started crawling.

Yes, my baby is now on the move and getting around at some speed. Life has become a lot more interesting as a result. It now feels like I am constantly diving to the floor to pick up stickers, pieces of cards and Jessica’s magazines. Sophie makes a beeline for them and is hell-bent on tasting everything that comes her way. I am not entirely sure that Jessica is quite prepared for her sister to be mobile and able to get to all the toys on the floor, rather than just the ones that Jessica is happy for Sophie to be playing with. I’m spending a lot of time now trying to encourage Jessica to share nicely or else trying to distract Sophie with another toy. Naturally everything Jessica is playing with is a million times more interesting that whatever Mummy is holding!

We’ve also got out of the habit of closing the stairgate in the lounge doorway. Jessica is usually quite happy to wander about downstairs freely. She doesn’t tend to try and flush things down the loo or explore cupboards she shouldn’t. It was quite a surprise when I’d left Sophie happily playing with some toys in the lounge to pop into the kitchen to make a cuppa and was then greeted by a little explorer trying to find where Mummy got to a moment later!

Whilst it is lovely that she’s hit another milestone this week with mastering the art of crawling, it does of course mean that I now need to have eyes in the back of my head (even more so than usual!)

  1. A lovely milestone, but yes, also a nightmare! And you’re right, having an older sibling makes it all the more challenging, as while you may keep things out of their way, the kids don’t! It’s the start of the madness – enjoy!! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

  2. Oh what a lovely milestone. It feels like a lifetime ago since my youngest started to crawl! (He’s nearly 4 now) It was definitely a lot more stressful with an older child leaving things lying about.

  3. Ooohhh a nice milestone! I really didnt experience this as my son skipped this bit. It is because the house that we are staying before when he is about to learn this one is so small. We lived in a hoarders house. I am so happy for your daughter! #wotw

  4. Oh yes, all bets are off once they start moving independently! It’s so lovely to see, but you do find yourself wishing for the days when they stayed where you put them 🙂 #WotW
