The Friday Focus 20/11/15

Over the last couple of months I’ve been rehearsing for a fundraising concert for Friends of PICU which we are performing tomorrow night. Trying to keep singing through last Sunday’s rehearsal despite being very chesty was not the best idea. It resulted in me completely losing my voice by Monday morning. I don’t often lose my voice and the run-up to a concert is not good timing for it to happen, particularly as I’m singing two solos and two duets plus the ensemble numbers which require me to use pretty much the whole of my vocal range. Thankfully, whilst I’m still a bit husky, my voice has mostly returned although I’ve not joined in with the last two rehearsals and tried to rest it as much as possible (easier said than done with two small children!) in the hopes that it will get through Saturday night! I think hubby and the girls have quite enjoyed the peace and quiet and I have been quite thankful for the toddler signing classes which have been very useful this week!

This week's word of the week is "voice" - The Friday Focus 20/11/15 - Little Hearts, Big Love

Things I have loved this week:

  • Seeing how excited the girls were at getting to meet Bing and Flop at Toys ‘R’ Us.

  • Jessica’s excitement over getting her new Frozen glasses from the opticians – I think she was even more excited over these than she was about meeting Bing!

Jessica's Frozen glasses

  • Listening to Jessica singing ‘One Day More’ and ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ after several weeks of hearing our performing group rehearse them for our fundraising concert.
  • Catching up with two of our close friends and having a bit of a games evening.

  • Taking advantage of a brief dry spell to do some footprint painting in the garden with the girls.

  • Managing to get the spare room cleared out so that my mum can come and stay for a few days.

    1. Thanks Caroline – thankfully I did have enough of a voice to get through the concert in the end! 🙂

  1. Wishing you the best of luck with the concert!
Jessica’s glasses are adorable….Now if I had those I would be more willing to wear mine when watching the TV….hehehe

    1. Thanks Kim. I love Jessica’s glasses too – shame they don’t come in adult sizes! 🙂

  2. Oh no! Terrible timing, I do hope it’s back to normal in time for you and hope the concert goes well. Those glasses are so sweet and my son would love to see Bing like that! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

    1. Thanks Jane, it still hasn’t properly come back but I had enough of a voice to get through the concert 🙂

  3. It was lovely to see you all, Louise – thank you so much for coming. You made our weekend.

Best of luck for tonight’s concert, and I hope your voice will be in fine form.

Failing that, you could always do some juggling instead…

    1. Lol, trying to sing with a husky voice is probably still a better option than my lack of juggling skills! So lovely to see you both too and looking forward to catching up again soon x

  4. I hope your voice is feeling better, I love that you all perform I seriously can not sing a note and so admire people that can, and loving Jessica’s frozen glasses she looks fab in them x

    1. Thank you Sarah – it’s getting there, wasn’t quite back fully but enough to get through. I love the Frozen glasses too 🙂

  5. I think I read you managed ok with your voice!! What a nightmare. I would have struggled to keep quiet…tehe and rest. Hope the show went well and was fun. Lovely pics of your family this week and hope you had a fab weekend and haven’t been too frozen xx #happydays

    1. Thanks Sarah – it was just about ok for the evening, not quite so good today though! Hope you have had a lovely weekend too 🙂

  6. Hope your voice returned for the show. It’s really impressive that you are singing solo. You’ve got me wondering how you sound and singing along with those songs your daughter has been too.#WotW

    1. Thank you Helena – it came back enough to do the show thankfully. There’s a couple of video clips from last year’s concert rehearsals on my Youtube channel (link on my sidebar) and one of Jessica performing her own little show if you do want to know what we sound like! 🙂
