This week has seen me on a mission to declutter my house. I’ve gone from room to room and drawn up a list of every little area that needs to be sorted out; breaking it all down into manageable chunks – a shelf here, a cupboard there. I’m determined to be ruthless about it and get rid of all the things that seem to do very little other than collect dust and have a thorough sort-out. Hopefully I’ll manage to get it all done by Christmas!
Things I have loved this week:
- My blog post Words – a reflection on the power of the words we use – being picked by Laura’s Lovely Blog as one of her five favourite blog posts for September.
- Being able to have an hour by myself to sit in a coffee shop and write while my mum enjoyed having time with the girls – and the enthusiastic greeting I got from Sophie on my return “Mummy! Nice to see you, Mummy!”
- Spending time with family and celebrating at my nephew’s wedding reception – the girls had a wonderful time on the dance floor, especially Sophie!
- Two days out at Legoland – one with my friend and her two girls and the second with Jessica and Sophie’s third cousin E. They all had a wonderful time and the girls were so worn out the second day that they fell asleep in the car on the way home and barely even woke up when I changed them into pyjamas. Easiest bedtime ever!
- Seeing the gorgeous colours of the leaves changing on the trees – Autumn can be so beautiful.
- Chatting to hubby over Skype and seeing how excited the girls were to see Daddy on the phone – Sophie kept giving the phone big cuddles and kisses which was adorable.
Hi Louise, an hour of peace in a coffee shop! Bet it felt like a lifetime! It’s nice to have a break sometimes and I bet the children loved seeing their Grandma.
I’ve never been to Lego Land, it is somewhere I would like to have gone when the children were little. It sounds like the perfect place to tire out little ones, which is always a bonus.
xx
It was perfect Debbie – the coffee shop is only 5 minutes’ walk from my Mum’s flat and she’s often quite happy to watch the girls for an hour so I can have that break. I used to love sitting in coffee shops and writing in my pre-children days and it feels like such a luxury to be able to do so once in a while now. Legoland is brilliant for little ones – there’s so much for them to do there and my girls love it 🙂
Good word! I love a declutter, and am always ruthless as we’re not hoarders at all! Have fun with that. And how cute is Sophie dancing?! Gorgeous x Thanks for sharing with #WotW
Thanks Jocelyn – continuing to chip away at it this week and it’s so satisfying to gradually see it disappear! Lovely to link up to #WotW again 🙂
it is indeed a good word and something I started but somehow have stalled with! And an hour in a coffee shop on your own, with those happy ‘welcome backs’ afterwards-perfect 🙂
I often find I stall after a while – am hoping the list helps me to keep going this time! 🙂
Gorgeous photos! I need to declutter soon….Especially before Christmas! Eek!
It sounds like a lovely week!
Thanks Kim – it was a lovely week 🙂
I love that photo of the tree. It’s a sign that my favourite season of the year has begun! Legoland sounds so fun! I really do enjoy reading your posts, always interesting and with a happy jessica.

Thank you so much Angela, so glad that you enjoy reading my posts. I love that photo of the tree too – Autumn is such a pretty time of year 🙂
I am so excited to de clutter in November on my week off! The gremlin is going to nursery. Sounds like a lovely week with family time and you time! Bet you will be glad when hubby is home. Gorgeous shot of the leaves xxx #wotw
So nice when you can focus on it and know that you won’t be interrupted! Hubby is back home now, and it is so good to have him back again 🙂
Good luck with all your decluttering hon. Sounds like you’ve had a really enjoyable week, oh and that video of Jessica and Sophie is just so darling!xx
Thank you – I loved watching them both dancing, so glad I managed to capture it 🙂
That’s a great way of getting the house sorted. In fact that is the way I’ve been dealing with my home. Well that and Pinterest and my very own collaged lookbook. Loving the outfits your little ones have been wearing and it’s great to hear the highlights of your life. Thanks for sharing. #WotW
Thanks Helena, Pinterest is great for decluttering tips, isn’t it? 🙂
Ah that’s so nice your mom spent quality time with the girls & you had some quality time with yourself. Congrats on the decluttering. I was working on that over the summer but have lost momentum & haven’t finished all of the closets yet. #HappyDays x
Thanks Becky – just need to keep going with it all, it is so easy to lose that momentum, isn’t it? 🙂
I love a good declutter, feels so good when its all gone 🙂 I hope you enjoyed your peaceful hour lol #HappyDays
Debbie
Thanks Debbie – that peaceful hour was bliss! 🙂
Good for you with the decluttering, there has been a lot of that going on here too lately! Love that shot of the autumn trees, this time of year really can be so beautiful! Xx
Thanks Caroline – it is so satisfying to have a good clear-out isn’t it? Hope your decluttering is going well 🙂
Sounds like a good way to declutter, I really could do with starting on some. The colour of the leaves on the tree in your photo are just amazing! #happydays
Thanks Julie – I do love seeing the leaves changing colour at this time of year – so pretty 🙂
Ah its sounds like a great week , I love having a de clutter it makes you feel so much better, I don’t know about you but I collect so much junk them have a big effort to throw it all out x
I’m not usually too bad for collecting junk but hubby seems to accumulate it! I’m trying to make sure it doesn’t build up again while I’m clearing the old stuff out! 🙂
I have been trying to declutter too, but there never seems to be enough time. So many lovely happy makers here x
Thanks Aby – finding time is a tricky one sometimes – have struggled a little more with that this week!
What a great word and one that I often try and embrace but fail to miserably! Declutter is something I must do soon as we are expecting an onslaught this Christmas so a spare cupboard or two will be most welcome!
I love your video, it’s so cute seeing little ones bopping away on the dancefloor. So cute!
Sounds like you’ve had a great week, even tho Hubby has been away
xx

Thanks Tracey – good luck with your decluttering efforts too. I’ve lost momentum a bit this week but hoping to get back on track again! 🙂
That video!!! Sounds like a lovely week and I can well imagine how welcome that coffee shop time must have been X #HappyDays
Thank you – loved being able to capture Sophie dancing and yes, that coffee shop time was utter bliss 🙂
Declutter – that’s what I seriously need to do! I’ve started, but it’s such a long process isn’t it! Glad you’ve had some ‘me’ time recently – it makes us all better mums doesn’t it? Even an hour in a coffee shop can make all the difference! x
It is a long process – especially when trying to make a thorough job of it! The me time was bliss – it really does make so much difference 🙂
Sounds like you had a lovely week, the photo of the tree is amazing – isn’t autumn amazing! I still feel like I need to do a declutter and a tidy in the house even though we have only been in a month.
Thanks Jenni – Autumn is such a beautiful time, isn’t it. Hope you are settling in to your new house 🙂
I’ve been more aware of the leaves changing colour this week – I love the colours. 🙂
I’m glad you had a fantastic time and Legoland. 🙂
