The Christmas Tag

I was recently tagged by Claire at The Pramshed to take part in the Christmas Tag and answer some questions about my favourite Christmas moments, and the little traditions that make up part of my family Christmas.

What’s your favourite Christmas Movie?

I’m a big fan of classic musicals so it would probably be White Christmas.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

There’s apparently been a couple in my lifetime but I can’t remember ever seeing snow on Christmas Day so it must have missed where I lived!

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

We tend to alternate between spending Christmas Day at our house or with hubby’s parents who live down the road. We catch up with my family before and after Christmas.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

My favourites probably change by the day through Christmas as I love so many different songs but “Mary, Did You Know” by Pentatonix and Katherine Jenkins’ version of “I Wish You Christmas” are current favourites.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

No – we always wait for Christmas Day.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

There’s Dasher, Dancer, Donner and Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Prancer and Vixen – I think I’ve got them all there! Plus Rudolph as an extra!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

I love listening to Christmas music whilst wrapping presents, going to at least one carol service (no Christmas for me is complete unless I’ve sung the descant lines on O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark the Herald Angels Sing at least once) and going to church on Christmas morning.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake. I’m in a minority I know but I don’t like the smell of real Christmas trees.

What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

Big tubs of Twiglets are always a winner with me! I also love having pigs in blankets with the roast turkey and all the cheese on the cheese board!

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?

Giving – I love trying to find or make some a little different that I know the recipient will love.

What is the best Christmas present you ever received?

A smile from Jessica in hospital after her second open-heart surgery. She’d been in intensive care for 10 days and Christmas morning was the first smile since she had her surgery.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

Home! I can’t imagine going away over Christmas.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

Pro – I get asked to wrap the awkwardly-shaped ones because I’ve learned a few tricks over the years about how to wrap them well!

Most memorable Christmas moment?

Accidentally flashing Santa on Christmas morning when he came to visit Jessica in hospital. I was expressing when he arrived and in my haste to take a photo, I forgot to put my boob away. It was only after he’d left that I realised – he does look a little uncomfortable in the photo!

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I think I was told by friends at school but I didn’t want to believe it and resisted it for a long time.

What makes the holidays special for you?

Being with family and friends.

Thank you Claire for nominating me. I realise it’s very close to Christmas now so I won’t tag any particular bloggers to join in with this – but if you want to share your own answers, please consider yourself tagged and let me know if you do decide to join in!

  1. Thank you for opening this tag up to others. It’s lovely to read about how you celebrate Christmas and I was amused by you flashing Father Christmas. This year my father is playing Father Christmas and I’m wondering whether the children will realise as he’s lost some fingers this year. Have a wonderful Christmas with the girls and hubby.

    1. Thanks Helena – hope your father has fun playing Father Christmas and that the girls don’t realise! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas too 🙂
