Parenting Pep Talk #29 – Rachel Bustin

Parenting Pep Talk is a weekly series of guest posts all about encouraging other parents by sharing some of our happy moments, the advice that has worked for us and some positive words of encouragement.

Today’s post is from Rachel who blogs at Rachel Bustin.  Over to you, Rachel!

1) Tell us a little bit about you and your family

I’m Rachel and I met my husband Dave around 9 years ago this year. In February of this year we welcomed our gorgeous rainbow baby girl into the world. I have been blogging for nearly 18 months but only while I have been on maternity leave I have really focused on it. I have to head back to work in October and I’m not looking forward to it at all. I love being a mum, it’s the best job in the world.

2) How would you describe your parenting style?

Relaxed. Is that a style?  I love breastfeeding and trying at the moment to work out how to carry on when I go back to work. We don’t co-sleep because I’m a real heavy sleeper and my husband is a 6ft 5 giant! We just go with the flow really. I listen to what my baby needs. We have never had structured feeding times, bedtime is between 8-9pm and we started weaning when I felt she was ready. In my opinion babies are like sponges and what you put into them you get back in return. We don’t believe in that controlled crying stuff. In fact our baby rarely cries. She is such a happy wonderful baby and we are truly blessed.

3) What’s your favourite thing about being a parent?

The joy you get from seeing them smile, turn over for that first time, learn to pick up her favourite toy. Milestones in her life.  Baby girl’s first word the other day was mumma. That to me is priceless.

4) What piece of advice have you been given that you found especially helpful?

If they cry they want something. That could be a nappy change, want feeding, they are in pain, over tired or want comforting. If you go through each of these things and count them out you will have a happy baby.

5) What one piece of encouraging advice would you give to a new parent?

You are a great mum whatever you think. You grew that baby inside of you and gave birth. Thats an amazing thing to do. Don’t beat yourself up in those first few weeks. It will get easier.

6) Can you share one of your favourite parenting moments?

When baby girl turned over by herself for the first time. She was weeks nearly getting there! I was so proud.

7) Anything else that you would like to share to encourage other parents?

” A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten and the future worth living for”

This is my favourite quote.
