From the mouths of babes #85

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week. I loved After the Rain’s post about the things her daughter has been saying recently, especially the account of how the Great Fire of London really started and an alternative name for a bourbon biscuit.  Nipper and Tyke’s latest update on the things Stella says was also a favourite this week – I loved her reasons for calling a napkin a “Grandad”.

One of the fun things about having had family to stay over the summer was being made aware of all of Sophie’s adorable toddlerisms.  I’m sure I tend to hear the word she is trying to say rather than noticing the way she says it most of the time but now that I’ve had my ears opened, I’m noticing them a lot more.  Here are some of my favourites:

“Cocklet” = chocolate

“Want goose!” = want juice (this one had been confusing me for ages, mainly because she’d said it once or twice in the supermarket whilst in the raw meat section and I couldn’t work out why she wanted me to buy goose!)

“Pinanno” = piano

“Jekka” = Jessica

She has such a wonderfully expressive face which can make for some amusing moments.  We had Jessica’s birthday party over the weekend and Sophie came into the front room with some cake.  My sister asked if she could have some cake.

“Oh no, Auntie ‘Raynne” Sophie said, looking distressed and dramatically throwing both arms out in front of her, palms up “dey all GONE!”

She also made me chuckle the other day when hubby got her undressed for the bath and she came running upstairs in her birthday suit.
“Look, Mummy! Daddy made me all bare bum!”

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

  1. I love toddlerisms and I am secretly preventing my children from dropping them haha! “I want goose is a good one,’ bwahaha. Can you imagine having a whole goose with your porridge for brekkie 🙂 Our youngest 2’s version of “chocolate” is very similar to Sophie’s xx

    1. I have to admit that I don’t always correct them – I love hearing them! Goose had me confused for ages – I kept thinking of roast goose and wondering where on earth she had come across eating goose! x

  2. Little B is just starting to talk now but I seem to be the only one who can understand him and I’m constantly translating what he’s saying to other people! #ftmob
