From the mouths of babes #55 – Bedtime prayers

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week. After the Rain had me laughing throughout her post – from her daughter saying “hello Michael” to a complete stranger through to a flashmob rendition of “Let it Go”. Writing Bubble also made me chuckle with her post about the things her toddler has said lately. I especially liked the local shopping centre being called “Dementor Centre.”

From the mouths of babes #55: Bedtime prayers - Little Hearts, Big Love

Bedtime prayers are one of my favourite parts of our nightly routine. Both the girls now like to join in and share the things that they want to say “thank you” for each day. Sophie mostly tends to be thankful for “Mummy, Daddy and Jess-ita” although will then tend to parrot her big sister’s list. Jessica’s list can be quite extensive at times! I love hearing all the things she is thankful for – it gives me a little insight into what is on her mind and the little things that are of huge importance in her world. Some of the things on the list are what I expect – “Grandma”, “Grandad”, “preschool”, “Bear”, whereas others are a little more unusual.

Here are some of the more unusual things that my girls have been thankful for:

  • Sophie being unwell (I’m hoping this was just Jessica listing the big events of the day rather than her really being thankful that her sister was poorly!)
  • Toothbrushes
  • Curtains
  • The dark
  • The numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 16 (not quite sure what was special about those ones!)
  • Footprints
  • Wet hair
  • Mummy and elephants (why these two things were linked together, I have no idea!)

And here are a few of my favourite thank you’s – these are ones that would also feature on my own list:

  • Jessica being thankful for “my zip” (the scar from her heart surgeries).
  • “I love you’s”
  • Snuggles with Mummy
  • Love

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

    1. Thank you Caroline – it is lovely that it is always quite a long list of things too! 🙂

  1. It’s lovely that they are able to identify things they are thankful for, even if they are sometimes a bit random! We are lucky to have these wonderful little people to treasure, aren’t we?

    1. We certainly are very lucky Alice and it is wonderful to get the little glimpses into their thoughts at times like this 🙂

  2. Ah the girls are so cute! The number 16 is a random one & a big number too! Footprints are pretty cool! I’m delighted to link up with you, I thought of this pot when I saw your linky advertised today! Thank you for hosting hun x

    1. Thank you for joining in Becky – it’s lovely to have you link up! The number 16 made me laugh – although I was quite relieved that she didn’t keep counting – bedtime prayers could have gone on a very long time otherwise! 🙂

  3. These are such sweet little things to say – I get what you mean by these prayers providing a little insight into her mind, it sounds like she as a lot of good in her life and some slightly random nice things too. Like elephants 😀 And I do have to agree, curtains are something to be thankful of, we don’t have any at the moment and I miss them 🙂

  4. These are brilliant – bless them! Love the random selection of numbers, toothbrushes & poor Sophie being poorly making it on there! Thanks for hosting! #ftmob

    1. I love the random mix too – it always makes me smile to hear the different things that appear on the list 🙂
