From the mouths of babes #138 – Chats with cats

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

Thank you to everyone who linked up last week. I enjoyed reading a Conversation with Hank as he considered whether he wanted to move into his own bedroom.

Sophie with Grandma's cat Saffron - "From the mouths of babes #138 - Chats with cats"

The girls love Grandma’s cat Saffron. Saffron is not always very sure about the girls though. When they were smaller, Saffron would usually run and hide whenever she saw the girls. Now they are bigger and no longer run at her and try to grab her, she is much more tolerant of their attentions towards her. She sat on the top of the sofa for ages one night recently, as Sophie gently stroked her and chatted away to her.

“Saffron, you’re the best cat in the whole wide world, aren’t you Saffron? Do you like being tickled Saffron? Is that nice Saffron?”

Saffron was purring quietly so she must have been quite happy with the attention she was getting.

When we were out for a walk recently, Jessica noticed a sign saying that dogs need to be kept on a lead. She asked me why dogs needed to be on a lead and I told her that it was partly so that the dogs didn’t run off and get lost.

“What about cats though Mummy? Shouldn’t they be on a lead too so they don’t get lost?”

Jessica’s now reached the stage where she’s discovered jokes, although hasn’t quite grasped punchlines yet. We have gems like “Why did the chicken cross the road? Because he saw the other chicken!” which are clearly very funny in Jessica’s mind. The punchlines might need a little work but Jessica’s laughter as she tells them is quite infectious and Sophie certainly finds them very funny.

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!
