From the mouths of babes #108 – Jessica-isms

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

Thank you to everyone who linked up last week. I loved Hank’s reaction to being surprised by a visit from his best friends shared by Conversations with Hank. Kate on Thin Ice made me chuckle with her youngest son’s career advice for his big brother.

Hubby has been home early enough to help put the girls to bed a few times this week. The trouble is, they’re so used to having Mummy put them to bed, that having Daddy instead can be met with tears and protests. Tears aside, it is quite nice for me to have that break when hubby is home and can take over bedtime. The other night though, hubby got to stay downstairs while I put the children to bed.

Hubby: “I see there’s no protests over mummy putting you to bed.”

Me: “That’s because (sings to the tune of All About That Bass) it’s all about the mum, ‘bout the mum, no daddy. It’s all about the mum, ‘bout the mum, no daddy…”

Jessica: (very seriously) “But it’s not all about the mum. We love Mummy and Daddy.”

There is a tuck shop after Girls’ Brigade on a Friday evening. Being given 20p to spend on sweets is one of the highlights of the week for Jessica and Sophie. One week, Jessica chose some jelly cherries. “Look, Mummy,” she said, “ear muff sweeties!”

I have lots of little affectionate nicknames for my girls – “chickie”, “darling”, “poppet”, “Popsie” and “Sophie-woo” are the most used ones. I have no idea where Sophie-woo came from – possibly from singing “Sophie, Sophie-woo, you’ve done a poo!” (to the tune of Scooby Doo) during nappy changes. Jessica has moments of objecting to the nicknames now though:

“I’m not Popsie, I’m Jessica! Why do you keep calling me Popsie? It isn’t my name!”

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

    1. Thanks Susan. It does make me chuckle when Jessica gets so particular over her name but I’m quite glad when she objects to it being shortened as we never shorten it ourselves. I’m sure that won’t always be the case though and one day I’ll have to get used to it being shortened!

    1. Thank you Kate. If they say something that particularly makes me laugh or smile, I try to remember to quickly make a note on my phone so I don’t forget it 🙂
