There are gremlins in my laundry pile;
How else do you explain
The things that disappear in there
Time and time again?
There are gremlins in my laundry pile:
Of this I have no doubt.
For in their pairs the socks go in,
Yet only one comes out.
There are gremlins in my laundry pile,
They hide white socks away
Then bury them in the pile of darks
To make them grubby grey.
There are gremlins in my laundry pile
And their magic spells they cast.
I’m certain that’s the reason why
The laundry pile grows so fast.
There are gremlins in my laundry pile
And I wish they’d go away.
But if the ironing fairy arrives,
I’d quite like her to stay!

So true Louise, there really is no other explanation!! You have such a beautiful way with words lovely xx #thetruth
Thank you so much – so glad you liked my poem 🙂
This is brilliant and every word is so true. I have an overflowing washing basket as we speak!!

Thanks Jenna – yes, my washing basket is overflowing too and always seems to be so!
I really enjoyed this Louise! Really good 🙂 Btw, if the ironing fairy shows up in your doorstep – do send her my way too. I make a lovely nice cup of tea & biscuits in exchange for ironing! 😉 x
Thank you so much. Wouldn’t it be nice if the ironing fairy did show up on the doorstep? 🙂
I think someone fed my Gremlins with water and exposed them to the sunlight as they’ve gone crazy in my laundry basket!!! xx
Lol, think that’s the case with mine too! 🙂
Love this! Of all the household tasks one must do, laundry has to be the worst! Maybe I should set a trap for the Gremlins 🙂
Thank you – if you manage to catch those pesky gremlins do let me know! 🙂
Love this and so true, where else do those socks go? One of life’s great mysteries! Xx #thetruthabout
Thank you – yes, those socks are a nightmare! I always seem to end up with a huge pile of odd ones despite my best efforts!
Love it, that explains everything – and if you find an ironing fairy, please send her my way 🙂 #thetruthabout
Thanks Sara – will do! 🙂
Brilliant Louise! I have to agree with every single point there. But I reckon you probably *are* the ironing fairy right? Just like I’m the washing up fairy in our house 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up again on #thetruthabout Xx
Thanks Sam – oh yes, I am indeed the ironing fairy but wouldn’t say no if another one decided to take on the job! Lovely to link up to #thetruthabout again 🙂
hahaha! Brilliant! I think I have gremlins in my laundry pile too….
Thanks Kim – those pesky gremlins get everywhere!
I love your poem, Louise! Would you have thought when you were 16 or 18, that you’d ever write a poem about laundry? Those socks, I really wonder where they all go…. Oh and when the ironing fairy is done at your house, send her my way please!
Thank you Mel – definitely would never have believed I’d be writing poems about laundry and enjoying doing so! The socks are a mystery – I have piles of odd socks and I’m sure they started off as pairs. I will definitely send the ironing fairy your way if she does turn up! x
I’d quite like the ironing fairy to visit so of you do see her please let her know! x
Lol will do! 🙂
Absolutely love this poem and how true. I keep saying to mr p where does all the socks and tights go! I share in our house their is a laundry thief. Thanks for linking up to Share WIth Me #sharewithme
Thanks Jenny – amazing how those socks and tights disappear! Lovely to link up to #sharewithme again 🙂
Oh loved this. I have gremlins in mine too. Glad your laundry looks similar t mine. On that note, I bet empty the washing machine.
Thank you – those gremlins get everywhere! I always seem to be emptying and loading the washing machine! 🙂
It was so good, I just had to share it! #sharewithme
Oh thank you so much Zena, so glad you liked it and thank you for sharing it! 🙂
Sadly my gremlins are teenage ones and they make the laundry smell horrid too. Fancy a swap?
Hmm, think I’ll stick to my own gremlins for now, lol!
Fantastic! And so very, very true. We keep feeding those gremlins too, don’t we?! Thank you for linking to Prose for Thought 🙂 x
Thank you – oh yes, my gremlins are always being fed! Lovely to link to Prose for Thought again 🙂
Brilliant Louise! We have gremlins too – although ours are the tooth gremlins (they take dirty teeth away if they haven’t been brushed). If you see the ironing fairy, please send him/her my way! #thetruthabout
Thanks Fiona – I like the idea of tooth gremlins too! 🙂
This explains everything!! Really clever Louise x
Thank you Laura – I’m sure they’re responsible for all my laundry woes! 🙂
This is fab – and totally fits everyone’s issues with disappearing washing. Right now the gremlin is also devouring my son’s pj bottoms – I start with so many and just don’t know where they go!!
Thanks Yvette – we’ve not had PJ bottoms disappear but the gremlins are definitely responsible for missing socks and gloves! 🙂
