Friday Focus 29/05/2026 – Pool

With all the hot weather this week, it’s been lovely to have a quieter week, get the paddling pool out and just enjoy time out in the garden, chilling out and cooling off in the water.

The word 'pool' in bubble writing with a watery fill

We started off with our small paddling pool, but now that Sophie and Thomas are bigger, it’s a bit of a squash when they’re both in it which leads to a lot of bickering so they ended up having to take it in turns while I ordered a bigger paddling pool. The next day, my husband decided to get the birth pool out in the garden which we were all able to enjoy. We had the new paddling pool out on Thursday and it was lovely just to be able to go in and out throughout the day to cool off.

We’ve had one day out during the half-term break, enjoying a trip to Legoland Windsor where we ended up spending a lot of time in the water play areas at Drench Towers and Splash Safari! We did manage to fit in quite a few rides as well, but the water play was definitely the highlight of the day.

It’s been a much-needed quieter time for Sophie after the busyness of the last few weeks with rehearsals and dancing. She’s had a break from rehearsals this week with the start of previews as there are four pairs of children playing Jeremy and Jemima and other pairs have been performing first. She has her first show tomorrow which is very exciting.

There was some more excitement at the weekend with Sophie competing in the All England Dance regional finals for the first time in her musical theatre duet and senior tap group. She’s done so well this year with her dancing and it’s always a joy to watch her perform. The senior tap group placed as runner-up in their section and qualified for the national finals which is an amazing achievement.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Thomas's legs covered in plasters; Sophie with her AED finalist medal; Sophie with the senior tap group holding their runner up medals; Sophie and Thomas in the small paddling pool in the garden; me in the birth pool in the garden; Sophie and Thomas at Legoland; Thomas in the big paddling pool in the garden - "#365daysofgratitude 2026 - Week 21"

  • Day 142 – I am grateful for plasters.

  • Day 143 – I am grateful for getting to see Sophie dance in her first All England Dance regional final.

  • Day 144 – I am grateful for a place in the All England Dance national finals for Sophie and the other girls in the senior tap group.

  • Day 145 – I am grateful for a quiet day at home.

  • Day 146 – I am grateful for getting the birth pool out in the garden.

  • Day 147 – I am grateful for a day out at Legoland.

  • Day 148 – I am grateful for our new paddling pool.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Being cast as Jack’s Mother for a production of ‘Into the Woods’ following an audition last week with an am-dram group that I’ve not performed with before. It’s a show I love but have never done. Very happy to have got a role and am looking forward to starting rehearsals next week.

  • A lovely NODA review of ‘From Stage to Screen’.

  • Thomas’s excitement at Nanny coming to stay and look after him while Sophie and I were at All England.

  • Some quiet time visiting Jessica before taking my mum home.

Pretty flowers at Jessica's forever bed

  • Seeing my beautiful roses in bloom in the garden.
