With all the hot weather this week, it’s been lovely to have a quieter week, get the paddling pool out and just enjoy time out in the garden, chilling out and cooling off in the water.

We started off with our small paddling pool, but now that Sophie and Thomas are bigger, it’s a bit of a squash when they’re both in it which leads to a lot of bickering so they ended up having to take it in turns while I ordered a bigger paddling pool. The next day, my husband decided to get the birth pool out in the garden which we were all able to enjoy. We had the new paddling pool out on Thursday and it was lovely just to be able to go in and out throughout the day to cool off.
We’ve had one day out during the half-term break, enjoying a trip to Legoland Windsor where we ended up spending a lot of time in the water play areas at Drench Towers and Splash Safari! We did manage to fit in quite a few rides as well, but the water play was definitely the highlight of the day.
It’s been a much-needed quieter time for Sophie after the busyness of the last few weeks with rehearsals and dancing. She’s had a break from rehearsals this week with the start of previews as there are four pairs of children playing Jeremy and Jemima and other pairs have been performing first. She has her first show tomorrow which is very exciting.
There was some more excitement at the weekend with Sophie competing in the All England Dance regional finals for the first time in her musical theatre duet and senior tap group. She’s done so well this year with her dancing and it’s always a joy to watch her perform. The senior tap group placed as runner-up in their section and qualified for the national finals which is an amazing achievement.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

- Day 142 – I am grateful for plasters.
- Day 143 – I am grateful for getting to see Sophie dance in her first All England Dance regional final.
- Day 144 – I am grateful for a place in the All England Dance national finals for Sophie and the other girls in the senior tap group.
- Day 145 – I am grateful for a quiet day at home.
- Day 146 – I am grateful for getting the birth pool out in the garden.
- Day 147 – I am grateful for a day out at Legoland.
- Day 148 – I am grateful for our new paddling pool.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Being cast as Jack’s Mother for a production of ‘Into the Woods’ following an audition last week with an am-dram group that I’ve not performed with before. It’s a show I love but have never done. Very happy to have got a role and am looking forward to starting rehearsals next week.
- A lovely NODA review of ‘From Stage to Screen’.
- Thomas’s excitement at Nanny coming to stay and look after him while Sophie and I were at All England.
- Some quiet time visiting Jessica before taking my mum home.

- Seeing my beautiful roses in bloom in the garden.

Ah well done Sophie and her tap group. That’s spooky as I was just watching an IG reel from a local dance school who were at the regionals this weekend too. So nice to have a paddling pool – N would probably love having another one, but we don’t have an outdoor tap, and the dogs get caught up in it too. The last one was sunk/burst somehow by the german shepherd creeping around and removing the tarp over the top which was held down with bricks/sleepers. No idea how she managed it. She usually hates going in water!
Massive congratulations to Sophie with her dance finals and to you to with your new role. What a great idea to get the birthing pool out to cool down in. Your day out on the water rides at the theme park sounds like it was well spent. Great your mum was able to come done to look after Thomas.
Glad you were able to spend some time At Jessica’s forever bed x
What a great idea to use the birth pool. I imagine there was a bit more room in there for you all.
Well done to Sophie and to you, it sounds like you both have a busy but exciting summer ahead of shows.
I hope Thomas had fun with his Nanny. That looks like a lot of plasters, poor Thomas. I hope it didn’t hurt too much.
How lovely to have a bigger, new paddling pool and the day out to Legoland sounds like a lot of fun. That is good Sophie could have some quiet time. Well done to her with the dancing.
Aww! All those plasters, it looks like Thomas has been in the wars. Congrats on being cast in the show and yay for Nanny coming to stay.
I did chuckle at the little pool! How lucky you had the bigger one And well done Sophie – it is so great when they find their groove.
I remember when we graduated to a bigger pool. The last time it was used it was just the two boys, the girls were not interested. But what was really nice was sitting in the early evening with our feet in the pool and a drink in our hands. Pools are life savers on hot days.
The new pool is so much bigger, looks great! Congratulations to Sophie!!
