Friday Focus 27/05/22 – Show

This week is show week. We’ve had our dress rehearsal for our music hall show and I’m looking forward to performing on stage again in front of an audience at the weekend. It’s so nice to have that show week buzz again.

Sophie and I went to see some of her friends performing in a show last weekend. The production was excellent but I wasn’t prepared for one of the scenes towards the end being a huge and very unexpected grief trigger. Thankfully Sophie was sitting with her friend and was fine, but I was a bit of an emotional wreck. I was grateful to have a couple of understanding friends there who helped distract Sophie and provide the space I needed to compose myself again.

Sophie got to try on her song and dance costume this week and practise in it ready for the next dance festival. While she was practising, Thomas decided to join in. I suspect he may have also inherited the performing gene from watching him dance with her!

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

A gosling lying on the ground; Thomas in the soft play at HALO play cafe; me snuggling up to Sophie and Thomas who are wrapped in towels outside; Sophie wearing a floral dress and a straw boater; a Bible and a notebook on a table; Thomas wearing a paper crown and Jubilee medal, holding a Union Jack flag, balloon and cupcake; Thomas playing with magnetic numbers - "#365daysofgratitude 2022 - Week 21"

  • Day 140 – I am grateful that a lady from the RSPB was walking past when we discovered this injured gosling on the way to forest school this morning. It was taken to the wildlife rescue centre, not sure if it survived but at least we tried. Thomas was very good at keeping his distance too.

  • Day 141 – I am grateful that Sophie and Thomas enjoyed themselves at the HALO play café anniversary party and for all the support that Halo Children’s Foundation offer to bereaved families like ours.

  • Day 142 – I am grateful for post-paddling-pool snuggles.

  • Day 143 – I am grateful for getting to watch Sophie practise her song and dance solo in costume.

  • Day 144 – I am grateful for all the thought-provoking discussions, reflections and exploration over the eight sessions of doing Stepwise Faith-Filled Life. I’ve been left with a few things to ponder over with regards to where God might be leading me next but as is often the case, it’s not quite where I was expecting!!

  • Day 145 – I am grateful that Thomas enjoyed his preschool Platinum Jubilee party (and it was quite nice to have a bonus afternoon of me-time while he was there too!)

  • Day 146 – I am grateful for number magnets helping keep Thomas entertained while out and about.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Sophie’s fascination at spotting lots of spiderlings in our hedge.

  • The beautiful roses in my garden.

  1. Have a wonderful time performing in the show. Good luck.
Aww! Sophie and Thomas really do have the performing gene. They are just adorable.
Lovely photos. I do hope the gosling survived. x

    1. Thank you, it was great to be back on stage again. Loved watching Thomas joining in with Sophie, he was so cute.

  2. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend, break a leg! That video is just the best, I don’t know what is cutest, Sophie’s brilliant performance (a real star) or Thomas trying to copy her. I’m sorry you had a sad moment this week too, but thankful that you have good friends that know how to help.

  3. I hope you have lots of fun at your show. Sorry to read about your triggering moment. I have a feeling I will have one of those watching Little E’s show in a few weeks. I love that you have had the paddling pool out already this year. We need to get our garden fun act in gear! #WotW

    1. Unexpected triggers are always the hardest. I hope that watching Little E’s show won’t be too hard for you.

  4. Hope the show goes well. So cute watching Sophie and Thomas. My brother used to copy me when I practised my ballet. Hope the gosling survived. Lucky there was the other lady who could help

  5. Your children are so adorable and I hope the performance was great. Performing as a child can be a wonderful and rewarding experience. #MMBC

  6. I am so happy you were able to watch that production with Sophie, but so sorry the scene at the end triggered your grief. I’m glad though someone was able to distract Sophie while you composed yourself and that Sophie herself was okay.

I am also happy to read that you were at the right time at the right place to see the injured gosling and so was the lady from the RSPB. I am hoping it survived.

    1. Sorry to hear you were triggered this week. Hope the injured gosling survived, what luck that person was there at the same time. Hope the show went well for you

    2. Thank you. It helped a lot having friends there who understood my reaction and were able to distract Sophie.

  7. Sophie’s performing must make you so proud that she is following in your footsteps. Fingers crossed that the gosling survived, poor little thing… #project365

    1. It’s lovely watching Sophie performing, especially when I can see how much she enjoys it too.
