Friday Focus 20/09/2024 – Overloaded

I’ve been feeling quite overloaded this week. There’s a lot going on at the moment and the mental load has felt very heavy at times. One of those weeks where it just feels like there are too many balls to juggle and I’m struggling to keep on top of it all.

The word 'overloaded' in purple bubble writing

We have a new minister at church, which is great, but it’s been a busy week preparing for his induction service tomorrow. Sophie also has an 11+ exam tomorrow so it will be a juggling act dropping her off and picking her up, and being there for the induction service as well.

My father-in-law is getting better and has been discharged home today. He’s glad to be home, but I’m concerned about whether more support is needed than is currently in place. It’s a bit of a worry. My husband is in Japan until the end of the month and so I’m the only family member available if my in-laws need support.

I’ve been hoping to catch up on the to-do list with Sophie and Thomas back at school but it’s been one of those weeks when it feels like things get added to it faster than I can tick them off!

The end-of-summer blues have hit this week as well, a couple of weeks later than they usually do. It’s been nice to have a few warm days with sunshine, and being able to get the washing out on the line, but with the weather about to turn again comes the sadness that summer is over for another year.

And then just to top it all, when I went to write this post, I had problems with logging in to the blog and accessing some of my posts. Thankfully I think I’ve managed to fix the issue now.

I know things will settle down again at some point but right now it all feels a little bit too much. Just got to keep taking things one step at a time.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Thomas in his Boys' Brigade uniform; Thomas watching Strictly; Thomas waiting for his swimming lesson; me holding Thomas's hand; my new great-nephew; a blue sky; Thomas eating ice-cream - "#366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 38"

  • Day 257 – I am grateful that Sophie and Thomas enjoyed being back at Brigades again.

  • Day 258 – I am grateful that Strictly Saturdays are back!

  • Day 259 – I am grateful for starting swimming lessons with a small class size and a warm pool.

  • Day 260 – I am grateful for a little hand to hold at bedtime.

  • Day 261 – I am grateful for getting to meet my gorgeous new great-nephew.

  • Day 262 – I am grateful for blue skies and sunshine.

  • Day 263 – I am grateful for an after-school ice-cream.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Getting to rehearse my solo number in Wind in the Willows for the first time.

  • The note in Thomas’s communication book that said “During Art, he used the paint and painted his whole chair.” I’m sure that wasn’t quite what was supposed to happen but reading about it made me giggle. He did clean it off afterwards!

  1. I’m sorry you feel so overloaded, I hope it all calms down soon. It’s good to hear your Father-in-law is on the mend, I hope he continues to get the help he needs and you can rest a little more. Thomas sounds so much like my Little Man, painting his chair is so something he would have done. He would always be ‘in trouble’ for taking things a little too far. Sadly, his school wasn’t very understanding which is why he was mostly home educated. He’s doing so well now though in year 10 and working on his GCSEs!! I’d have never have believed it, but I fought for the help and he got it! He doesn’t like Shakespeare though, lol. x

  2. Sending love and hugs. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate. I hope things calm down soon and the 11+ exam for Sophie went well.
That’s good your FIL is home and I hope you can get the support that he needs. It must be so stressful being the only family member available.
I am so happy that Strictly is back too. It makes Saturday’s fun again! x

  3. Glad to hear your FIL is home now, but I can imagine it’s stressful trying to get the right support in place. How lucky is your husband to be in Japan, what does he do for a living? Good luck Sophie with her 11+

  4. I hope the time with your husband away is going well with all your commitments and your Father in Laws health. how lovely to have a cuddle with your great nephew. Hope the 11+ went well for Sophie x
