Summer has well and truly arrived with all the sunshine and warm weather this week. I love the warm weather but I’ve definitely been grateful for ice-cream and fans to help keep cool too!
We’ve had lots of sunshine moments this week. Sophie and I were both competing in a dance festival at the weekend. It’s the first one we’ve been too that had an adult section so I entered the freestyle (any genre) section with a musical theatre solo (my solo number from The Wind in the Willows) and came second. I never did dance lessons as a child so entering a dance festival was a new experience for me. It was lovely to join in with something Sophie loves and she loved having me join in too.
Sophie did well in the festival too and came away with four medals (two silvers and two bronzes) for her solos and a ‘Well Done’ adjudicator’s award.
Thomas has been doing well this week too and enjoyed another visit to the junior school to prepare him for September. He made me chuckle one day this week when I asked him if he had a good day. He replied, “I was good most of the day, but not at the end. I was trying to be good, but I couldn’t do it all day. I was good at club though.” It’s hard to be good all day, especially with all the challenges of the school environment. He is enjoying school now though and I’m glad that it’s a happier environment for him now than it has been at times.
It was also lovely this week to have a message remembering Jessica from Jessica’s best friends who have sponsored Sophie for a charity walk later this month. They moved shortly after Jessica died and I’ve not been in touch with their parents for a while. I was also told that Jessica’s best friend still keeps Jessica’s cuddly toy bunny on her bed which made me smile. It means so much to know that Jessica is still thought of and remembered.
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 164 – I am grateful for Thomas’s love of drawing.
- Day 165 – I am grateful that Sophie enjoyed the Girls’ Brigade District outing to the Cotswold Wildlife Park.
- Day 166 – I am grateful for the opportunity to compete in a dance festival for the first time.
- Day 167 – I am grateful that I managed to avoid getting stung by the nettles on the overgrown sections of today’s walk which had made me regret my decision to wear shorts!
- Day 168 – I am grateful for a lovely little note from Sophie.
- Day 169 – I am grateful for fans.
- Day 170 – I am grateful for ice-cream.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Sophie receiving her silver BASE award (her school’s take on a junior DoE-type scheme).
- Meeting a friend for breakfast and having a catch-up.
Joining in with Raisie Bay for Word of the Week.
It has been a lovely week but too hot for me even with all the ice cream.
All the sunshine moments are wonderful! Well done to you and Sophie in the dance festival! Aww! Thomas is a sweetheart, at least he is trying to be good and is honest about his feelings which must be admired.
How lovely that Jessica is still remembered. She was such a special girl. x
Oh my goodness! Well done you and Sophie for your dancing success. Hope you get more opportunities to enter adult contest classes. Also Sophie for her silver award. Who couldn’t appreciate where Thomas is coming from when he says that he was good most of the day. It is tough following all the rules. A beautiful reminder about how special Jessica was to everyone that knew her. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
I’ve been grateful for fans this week, too! Although I’m struggling to keep cool today, even with two fans on, as the house has warmed right up.
Well done to you and Sophie on your dance medals, it’s lovely that you could take part in a show together.
I agree with Thomas, being good all day is hard, but it sounds like he’s giving it his best go.
That’s lovely about Jessica’s friend; she was and still is a very loved and cherished friend, and it’s nice for you to have those little reminders.
How cool that you could enter the dance festival. Dance competitions weren’t a thing when I was a child, so it’s madness how competitive it all seems to be nowadays. Well done to both of you. Sounds like Thomas is getting to grasps with school, and hopefully he’ll be well settled in preparation for September’s move.
I am so thankful for fans and ice lollies this week!
Well done to you and Sophie for the dance festival, and good on you for taking part.
Lovely to hear that Thomas is more settled at school. I love his reasoning for being a little naughty! Haha. I wholeheartedly agree with him.
It must be a huge comfort that beautiful Jessica is still loved by her friends. She will always be remembered. x
Well done to you all!
That is really lovely of Jessica’s friend. It is always so lovely to be reminded that they were loved by others as well.
I think fans and ice cream were the theme of the week last week. It doesn’t last though, it’s quite cold here in the Midlands today. How lovely that Jessica is still remembered by her little friend.
Tell Thomas that even grown ups do not manage to be good all day and if he got most of a day then he’s doing really well 🙂 I love that Jessica is remembered by her friend that is so sweet.Well done to you and Sophie at the dance festival – love your costume!
How lovely you and Sophie took part in the dance competition and congrats to you both. I feel like Thomas most days when I’m in school, bless him, at least he’s honest.
That’s wonderful that you were able to catch up with Jessica’s best friend and her family. I’d love to have that contact from time to time, I hope that it is a good experience for you as a family.
I’m with Thomas, it’s so hard to be good all day. 🙂 We all need to be a bit mischievous from time to time.
Big well done to Sophie and you, that’s super amazing. I said it before, I’ll say it again, you’re a super talented family.
And yes, fans and ice lollies save the day in this unbearable weather.
