Friday Focus 13/06/2025 – Preparing

This week we’ve been busy preparing for various productions and other things that are coming up in the coming months.

The word 'preparing' in purple bubble writing

Saturday morning was spent preparing the church hall ready for the last two shows of our music hall production. It was great to be back on stage again performing the various music hall numbers and I had so much fun doing it.

I’ve been making hedgehog costumes and a horse tail this week to prepare for next weekend’s performance of some songs from The Wind in the Willows at the NODA awards. We had our final rehearsal yesterday and I’m looking forward to revisiting the songs one more time.

Sophie has joined the props club after school to make props ready for the Year 6 production and has also been busy learning lines and songs to prepare for this. Both she and Thomas have been preparing for their transition to their new schools in September. Thomas had a transition afternoon at school this week which he enjoyed, particularly as he got to see Sophie and give her a hug. We had a uniform fitting appointment for Sophie for secondary school. She looks very grown up and smart in her new uniform.

Thomas had a visit from the tooth fairy this week and prepared for it by putting together a to-do list which made me smile. He mixed up the AMs and PMs a little bit but I loved how he changed it to a “should-do” list and included a plan to get up at 11.57pm to look at the moon for 3 minutes. I did point out to him that I wasn’t going to wake him up for that one but he still wanted to include it!

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

The first page of a book; me performing 'Burlington Bertie from Bow'; my husband reading a bedtime story; a church; two swans with cygnets; me holding a Calendar Girls launch pack against a blue sunflower-print dress; my sewing machine - "#365daysofgratitude 2025 - Week 24"

  • Day 157 – I am grateful for books.

  • Day 158 – I am grateful for two more chances to perform with WOS Productions in the music hall.

  • Day 159 – I am grateful for bedtime stories.

  • Day 160 – I am grateful for a few quiet moments to sit with and remember my lovely dad.

  • Day 161 – I am grateful for a walk with other bereaved parents, being able to spend time with others who understand this journey and sharing stories about our wonderful children.

  • Day 162 – I am grateful for the perfect dress for the launch night for Calendar Girls.

  • Day 163 – I am grateful for my sewing machine.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Pretty flowers for Jessica.

Pink, red and white roses in a wooden vase at Jessica's forever bed

  • My sister sharing a photo of herself with a very little Jessica as a memory on social media.

  1. I love making props. I hope Sophie enjoys her new club. Making a hedgehog costume must have been fun too and the horse tail. I also am grateful for my sewing machine(s). What a sweet “should do” list. Planning to look at the moon until midnight sounds like a fabulous idea. Hope the tooth fairy visited. Beautiful flowers for Jessica and I’m glad you had time with other parents that could relate to you. Hope all you preparations go well.

  2. It sounds like you are more than prepared for all the loveliness happening this summer. This time of year is always so busy, and I think it is even more so this year with Sophie’s transition to high school.
I love the tooth fairy to-do list. Thomas had thought of everything. I hope she left him something nice.
What a gorgeous photo of baby Jessica and your sister! Her flowers are beautiful as well this week.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend x

  3. All the preparing does sound like fun and the performing too!
How exciting for the kids to be going to new schools, especially Sophie going to secondary. Time does fly.
Aww! Thomas’s should do list is so cute!

  4. The toothfairy list is super cute, you have to keep it for Thomas, when he grows up.
You look very debonair in that costume. It really suits you.
So lovely to be involved in all the projects, making costumes and props. And new schools, how exciting (and a little bit scary too).
Beautiful photo of baby Jessica with your sister, what a cherished memory. And beautiful flowers for Jessica.

  5. What a lovely photo of your sister with a baby Jessica, they both look so relaxed. I’m glad you had time to think about your dad, I often do the same with mine. I bet Sophie looks all grown up (too grown up) in her new uniform, can’t believe shell be in big school in September. I love Thomas’s ‘should do’ list. I need one of them.
