Friday Focus 19/05/2023 – Injured

I have an injured hubby this week after he slipped on the ramp of his work van and damaged his knee. The nurse practitioner at A&E thought that he may have dislocated his kneecap but that it had popped back in by the time his knee was X-rayed, and we’re now waiting for referal to the physiotherapist to help with the recovery process. While he is able to get about a little with the crutches, he’s currently having to stay downstairs as he can’t manage the stairs and we’ve had to be work around things with work and the children as he won’t be able to drive for a while as well. Thankfully he’s not been in too much pain and I think we’re managing things as best we can.

It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster of a week emotionally. As well as the emotions that have come with dealing with hubby’s injured knee, there have been the emotions around the anniversary of Jessica’s funeral this week and the memories that come with that. I’ve been very grateful for the support that we’ve had from family and friends helping us through this week.

Me and Jessica

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Bath bombs in a clear plastic box; Thomas climbing over Daddy and Sophie playing with toys while Eurovision plays on the TV; me and Sophie snuggled up together; my husband on crutches; me in my new swim dress; sheet music for 'Ding dong the witch is dead' with a rehearsal in the background; my feet in blue sandals with strawberries printed on them - "#365daysofgratitude 2023 - Week 20"

  • Day 132 – I am grateful for a productive afternoon decluttering the bathroom cabinets and clearing out old bath toys.

  • Day 133 – I am grateful for family time together watching Eurovision.

  • Day 134 – I am grateful for snuggles with Sophie while listening to her reading.

  • Day 135 – I am grateful that my husband didn’t break any bones when he fell yesterday evening and can get around a bit thanks to painkillers and crutches. Hoping that his knee will heal quickly.

  • Day 136 – I am grateful for a new swimming costume and the opportunity to go for a swim while Sophie had her swimming lesson.

  • Day 137 – I am grateful for the start of another show. Looking forward to hopefully being joined by Sophie again for this one. Also grateful for managing to sing ‘Over the Rainbow’ without breaking down. It will always remind me of how Jessica’s class sang it for her at her memorial assembly but tonight I also thought of Jessica’s smile and her strength and held on to that too.

  • Day 138 – I am grateful for warm weather and being able to wear sandals again.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Doing some geocaching while Sophie was at her dance lesson.

  • Being able to have the washing drying outside on the line each day this week.

  • Sophie being awarded the dancer of the week trophy at her dance school.

  1. Oh no! Your poor husband. It’s good that he’s not in too much pain and he can still get around a little with the crutches.
Sending love and hugs. That is such a beautiful photo of you and Jessica. You both look so happy.
Good luck with the new show! x

  2. So sorry to hear about the injury and I hope hubby gets well soon. I’ve been in the dumps too, but hopeful for things to look up soon. A few weeks ago was the anniversary of my son’s funeral too. Luckily, on the day I totally forgot. Grief is like that, with time.

  3. So sorry that Michael injured himself, he’s lucky it wasn’t worse. Sending lots of healing thoughts your way, especially as you are dealing with the anniversary of Jessica’s funeral too. She will always be in my heart. I hope next week is a little more fun and a lot less painful. #wotw

  4. Oh no! Hope your husband’s knee gets better soon but he shouldn’t rush things. Gentle hugs for you all and I hope next week is better. And well done to Sophie!

  5. Oh dear! Poor Michael, I hope he is OK. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Love your new swimming costume you look fab.
I bet you sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ beautifully! I’ve heard you sing before, you are amazing. It must have been quite a tough song to sing, but I’m glad that Jessica gave you the strength to get through it.
Sending you lots of love. xx

  6. Well done Sophie on her award. Ouch, knees can be so painful. I dislocated mine but ended up having an op. So painful.. Hope your husband’s heals ok and he gets physio or other relevant support to help.

  7. Well done getting through ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ it’s an emotional song and holds such precious memories for you. Sorry to hear your husband has injured his knee, hope he’s not in too much pain and recovers quickly.

  8. Hope hubby’s knee improves! I haven’t made it into sandals yet but did wear shorts a couple of days ago Now back in a thick dressing gown again, brr! #project365

  9. Oh no, I hope your husband is on the mend by now. Darren has had accidents with his work vans before they can be interesting! Love that swimsuit. I haven’t been able to find one I’m comfortable in for a while now #WotW
