Friday Focus 17/05/2024 – Excitement

We’ve had quite a lot of excitement in the LHBL household this week. Last Friday night, I was excited at seeing a red aurora alert on my phone along with the aurora ovation map looking very encouraging over our local area. We ended up taking Sophie and Thomas on a night-time drive into the Chiltern hills where we got to see the aurora borealis for the first time. It was absolutely amazing and well worth the very late night we had as a result!

Sophie was very excited the next day about the Eurovision final, particularly as Luxembourg (where her cousins live) were in the final for the first time in 31 years.

Thomas has been very excited this week and counting down the days as Nanny is coming to stay tonight. I’m performing in a concert tomorrow so my mum will be on hand to help look after Sophie and Thomas, while I’m busy with that. We’ve had the final rehearsals ahead of tonight’s tech rehearsal and I’m excited about performing on stage. I’m singing ‘A Summer in Ohio’ from The Last Five Years, ‘Lily’s Eyes’ from The Secret Garden along with ‘Cell Block Tango’ from Chicago, ‘A Musical’ from Something Rotten, ‘Rhythm of Life’ from Sweet Charity, ‘The Ballad of Sweeney Todd’ from Sweeney Todd and ‘One Day More’ from Les Miserables.

Sophie has a school trip today and she and Thomas have their school disco this evening so that’s a bit more excitement for them too!

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

The aurora borealis; Thomas playing with the mud kitchen in the garden; yellow and red orchids on a windowsill; Thomas's picture with the words "Friday 17 May, Nanny's coming"; me with dark brown hair; a red rose in the garden; a mug of coffee on a table - "#366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 20"

  • Day 131 – I am grateful for getting to see the Northern lights!

  • Day 132 – I am grateful for outdoor play in the sunshine.

  • Day 133 – I am grateful that the orchids on my windowsill have flowered again.

  • Day 134 – I am grateful for Thomas’s excitement over Nanny’s forthcoming visit.

  • Day 135 – I am grateful for hair dye.

  • Day 136 – I am grateful for the beautiful roses in the garden.

  • Day 137 – I am grateful for a chat with a friend over coffee.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Going out for afternoon tea with my husband.

  1. What a fun packed, exciting week. I hope your concert goes without a hitch and Thomas enjoys his weekend with his Nanny. My orchid has flowered for the first time this week and hair dye has featured in our week too. Not me! I totally missed Eurovision, but glad you all enjoyed it. I love the look of your evening tea. You caught a perfect moment of the water fight . Thomas’s calmness and Sophie’s reaction. Hope you have a lovely week.

  2. Excitement is a great word! I am so glad you got to see the Northern Lights. What a great adventure.
How fab to have your mum helping with the kids. I hope the show goes well. x

  3. I honestly thought we wouldn’t get to see the northern lights here so didn’t bother staying up – kicking myself now

  4. It all sounds very exciting. Happy for the family. Long may it continue. I didn’t get to see any of the lights live but I’ve seen some pics which look amazing.
