Friday Focus 14/07/17 – Planning the next step on the journey

Jessica’s cardiac team had their meeting on Monday and the plan is for Jessica to be put forward for her next open heart surgery. At the moment, we don’t know when this will happen but we suspect it will be during the summer holidays. We will be meeting with her surgeon at the beginning of August to discuss the surgery and find out more about when this will take place.

Plan - this week's word of the week

Although we knew that this was the most likely outcome of the meeting, it still felt like a shock to have it confirmed. This is a big step for Jessica on her journey. It certainly feels like a very big step for us as parents.

In the meantime, we’ll try and make the most of the summer, and make as many memories as possible before Jessica has to go back into hospital.

Things I have loved this week:

  • Jessica getting four new badges on her badge bag at the Girls’ Brigade awards evening plus a badge and certificate for 100% attendance at church parade.

  • Having fun at the Buzzyhumming Summer tea party at the Roald Dahl Museum and meeting up with some other bloggers.

  • Celebrating at a friend’s wedding and getting up on the dancefloor with my hubby.

My two friends getting married

  • Having my mum come and stay for a few days.

  • Afterschool trips to the park.

  • Hubby surprising me with a meal out for our wedding anniversary when I thought he was working.

  1. A worrying time for all of you, I have no doubt. Hopefully you have some lovely things planned to help take your mind off Jessica’s operation until you really need to think about it.

    1. Thank you Tara. We’ll be enjoying the summer as much as we can until it needs to happen x

  2. Sorry to hear that Jessica has to have surgery sooner than you thought. I will be thinking about you all. I hope that you can plan lots of lovely things to do before hand.
I would love to go to the Roald Dahl museum one day, I still have all his books from my childhood, sounds like you had a wonderful time x #WotW

    1. Thank you Angela. We have lots of plans for the summer and will be making the most of as much of it as we can x

  3. I sounds like a lovely week that you’ve had. I know you were expecting Jessica’s surgery but it’s always a surprise when it’s confirmed. I hope you are able to have a fun and no worry too much over the summer. I’m sure she’ll be okay. If you were in my city my daughter would be in the theatre with Jessica, she works in heart surgery at our children’s hospital. She sees open heart surgery every day and so many children come out of it really well. In fact, it generally only the tiny babies that prove difficult. It’s still really worrying for the parents though xx

    1. Thank you Anne. Your daughter has an amazing job. It’s reassuring to know that so many children do well. I hadn’t thought about how much harder the surgery would have been when Jessica was a baby but it’s reassuring to think that her being bigger will hopefully help x

  4. Sorry to hear that it is going ahead, I know you were hoping it would be delayed for another year. I am sure you’ll have lots of fun before the operation with the girls, and of course I hope everything goes well when the time does come. How lovely of your husband to surprise you on your anniversary? So thoughtful and sweet x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

    1. Thank you Jocelyn. We’ll make the most of the summer until we have to worry about it x

  5. There is no good time for heart surgery but at least having it during the summer holidays means she might not miss as much school…My girls had their surgery slap bang in the middle of the holidays and it was so hard to plan anything but we made the most of it by just having days out while waiting…The week we were in hospital it did nothing but rain so it wasn’t too bad. hehehe Sending love and hugs!
Aww! Your hubby is so sweet and thoughtful x

    1. Thank you Kim. I think they’ll probably plan it for the holidays for that reason. We’ll make the most of the summer though until we have to go in x

  6. Yes. Lots of fun things and memory making days. Good idea to plan and squeeze in as many as possible before you are more restricted. I’m sure it will go well, but I know you will be worried, so lots of distractions sounds like the best plan of all. #wotw

  7. Ah Louise bless you what a shock for you all even though you were expecting it, the reality is a different thing, sending all my love and strength for the next couple of months and that anniversary surprise was so romantic x
