It’s been another week of unwellness in the LHBL house. I had a nasty attack of vertigo on Friday which knocked me out of action for the day as I could barely move my head without the room spinning. Thankfully my husband was able to work from home that day and take over as primary parent. It was just as well we weren’t going to Torquay. Fortunately by Saturday morning, the giddiness had eased to more bearable levels and I was able to take Sophie swimming and to the cinema, and by Monday morning, it had mostly gone.
Thomas’s chickenpox spots had all scabbed over so he was able to be back at school on Monday, but it was a short-lived return as by Wednesday he was off again with a sick bug. He spent most of Wednesday sleeping on the sofa but perked up by the evening and is much better again now.
Hopefully next week will be a healthier one for us all, and we’ll be able to enjoy the half-term break.
What I’ve been grateful for this week:
- Day 38 – I am grateful that my husband has been able to work from home and take over as primary parent while I’ve been struggling with vertigo.
- Day 39 – I am grateful for feeling much better today and able to enjoy a cinema trip with Sophie to see the new Dogman movie.
- Day 40 – I am grateful for Duolingo.
- Day 41 – I am grateful for pretty flowers.
- Day 42 – I am grateful that Thomas’s junior school setting has now been confirmed on his EHCP.
- Day 43 – I am grateful that Thomas has perked up after being off school today with a sick bug and was singing to himself while playing with his Lego.
- Day 44 – I am grateful that my mother-in-law was able to look after Thomas so I could watch Sophie in her football match.
Other things that have made me smile this week:
- Sophie getting a Brainiac award at school for managing to catch up on the work she missed while off with chickenpox.
- Thomas snuggling up to Sophie on the sofa before school.
- A 2-1 win for Sophie’s football team.

I’m sorry to hear that you and Thomas have been poorly this week. Hopefully, you’ve got everything out of the way so you can enjoy half term.
That’s an impressive streak on Duolingo! Chris and Daisy have been learning Japanese and are always comparing their streaks.
Well done to Sophie on her awards and wins this week.
Oh no! Sorry you have all been unwell, I hope you are all better now. Hopefully now that you’ve had your dose of unwellness you can enjoy a healthy half term. x
Oh no, horrible to be ill yourself, especially when the children have also been unwell. Hopefully all will be well for over half term.
Impressive Duolingo. I think I only got to half a year on Spanish and then gave up. I’m on 222 for Elevate which is reading, writing, maths, spelling daily practice activities. I like those more than the languages.
Must be a relief on the junior school place being confirmed. Hope that move works out well for Thomas once it comes round.
Hope you all feel better now and can enjoy half term. Glad you got the EHCP sorted out. Well done to Sophie’s football team!
Sick weeks are rough. We had one a few weeks ago – my youngest daughter and I were both down. Glad you had some help this past week though 🙂
Not good that half of the family has been down with being unwell. I imagine how grateful you must be that your husband is available and can take care of the little ones when you can’t. Half term is here so I hope you all have a good one.
Oh no, sorry to hear that you have been poorly too. Thank goodness that your husband was home. Glad to hear everyone is now on the mend
Oh I’m glad your vertigo has passed now, it must be really awful. When I get it, it feels like I’m incredibly drunk, and I don’t really drink! (I guess it’s a memory from my earlier days before children) I’m sorry Thomas has been unwell too. Sometimes when you have an illness you are susceptible to getting sick again soon afterwards, poor little mite, I hope he’s on the mend now.
Oh, what a week! Sorry to hear about your vertigo attack, and Thomas getting poorly again so soon after he returned to school. His immunity must have been weakened by chicken pox.
I’m soooo impressed by your Duolingo streak, you’re a hero! I stopped doing Duolingo, but miss it a bit. I liked doing lessons but hated the constant badgering with the leaderboards, and couldn’t get out of them, as my account was registered to some stupid email which I never owned.
Sorry to hear you were so poorly, glad it cleared up quickly ish for you. Shame about Thomas becoming unwell after his bout of chickenpox. Well done to Sophie on catching up with her missed school work. Love the cushion cover with the picture of Jessica on it.
