Friday Focus 12/07/2024 – Joy

We’ve had lots of little moments of joy this week, starting with the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade annual display, which is always a highlight in the Brigades’ calendar. Sophie’s section did a lovely piece sharing a recipe for friendship and Thomas’s section had a game where they were in two teams throwing a dice and sticking cotton wool balls on to a drawing of a sheep. Thomas coped so well with his first display and I enjoyed doing some ceilidh dancing with the Senior section.

The word 'Joy' in green bubble writing with a doodle of a hedgehog above the 'o' and a doodle of a mole next to the word.

We celebrated a friend’s daughter’s 1st birthday at the weekend and Sophie and Thomas had a wonderful time at her party. Sophie was particularly good at entertaining the little ones and it was lovely to watch her with them.

There was a moment of joy for me and Sophie when the cast list for The Wind in the Willows came out. I’ve been cast as Mole and Sophie will be playing one of the two hedgehog children, which she is very happy with.

Later in the week, we had the joy of watching Sophie taking part in her class assembly and my husband and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary.

And of course, there’s the joy of England winning their semi-final match and getting through to the final of the Euros, although I have to admit that I’ve not actually watched any of the football!

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Sophie balancing a bean bag on her head at the BB/GB display; birthday balloons and a cake for a 1st birthday; Thomas arranging number flashcards; Thomas reading a book; Thomas asleep and cuddled up with his toy sheep; my script for Wind in the Willows; me and my husband on our wedding day and now - "#366daysofgratitude 2024 - Week 28"

  • Day 187 – I am grateful for a lovely evening watching the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade annual display.

  • Day 188 – I am grateful for a lovely afternoon catching up with friends and celebrating our friends’ daughter’s 1st birthday.

  • Day 189 – I am grateful for listening to Thomas singing to himself while arranging his number cards.

  • Day 190 – I am grateful for books.

  • Day 191 – I am grateful for post-bedtime downtime.

  • Day 192 – I am grateful for a read through of Wind in the Willows. So excited at having been cast as Mole and really looking forward to getting underway with rehearsals.

  • Day 193 – I am grateful for 15 years of married life with my lovely hubby.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Sophie getting a ‘Brainiac’ award at school.

  • Thomas and Sophie both discovering that they can send messages to me on their tablets. I’ve had some adorable loving messages from Sophie. Thomas’s are a mixture of pictures of his doodles, skip-counting sequences, and random auto-fill messages which make me chuckle.

  1. You missed the football! Happy anniversary BTW. The match was a little more upbeat this time and definitely so exciting when we scored in the last minute of regular play! I can’t wait for the final on Sunday now. Congrats to you and Sophie for your parts in the production. Hope it all goes well. Have a great rest of the week.

  4. I was looking at your little diagram and wondering what the mole and hedgehog was about. It’s such a cute drawing. I’m glad you’ve had a joyful week.

  5. Congratulations to you and Sophie on your parts in the production. How lovely the children have discovered they can send messages to you on their tablets, expect lots of demands for drinks and snacks to be delivered to them. Happy anniversary to you both.
