The Friday Focus 08/01/16

After enjoying lots of family time together over Christmas and New Year, this week has been all about the return to normality. Jessica is back at preschool again, our usual toddler classes have resumed and hubby is back at work. It’s been a bit of a challenge adjusting to it – I often find that I feel a little low in early January after the excitement of the festive season but after a bumpy couple of days mood-wise, things seem to be back on an even keel again. I’ve been enjoying finding things to be thankful for each day as part of my #366daysofgratitude over on Instagram and this has also helped encourage me to be  more positive too.

Things I have loved this week:

  • Embracing the positives and looking for things to be thankful for as part of the #366daysofgratitude challenge.
  • Going out for a meal with a group of friends.

  • Finally unpacking the last of the boxes in the garage. We moved over six years ago so it wasn’t too surprising that it resulted in us getting rid of most of the contents of said boxes!
  • Seeing things take shape in the garage – it’s not quite finished yet but the walls have been painted, shelves have gone up and hubby has a new work bench.
  • Seeing the joy on the girls’ faces when they greeted each other at preschool pick-up time with big cuddles.
  • Having hubby home in time for dinner one evening – a rare occurrence when he is back at work!
  • Going for a walk and exploring a previously unexplored lane near our house.

  • The girls’ excitement at being back at Tiny Talk toddler signing classes.

  1. I’m down joys of your garage, well done on all that space! Ours is filled with boxes right to the top. I’m sure 99% of it is the other halfs! 🙂

    1. Sounds like ours was before we started! It feels good to have cleared it out and have some space to move! 🙂

  2. A good word, and I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling back in the swing now. I’ve seen your #366daysofgratitude snaps over on Instagram and it is a lovely idea. Makes you stop and think each day, I do like seeing your photos. Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

    1. Thanks Jocelyn – I’m really enjoying the #366daysofgratitude, such a lovely way of looking for all the positives each day and I’m glad you’re enjoying seeing the photos too 🙂

  3. This is my word of the week too.
I’m glad to hear you’re feeling a little more lifted now, I think the come down from the festive season is always a toughy.
I bet you are relieved that your garage is coming along too, always nice when a project gets finished.
    Have a lovely weekend 🙂 #WotW x

    1. It’s a good word for the week! I think ‘come down’ is a very good way of describing it – there’s just so much hype and excitement around Christmas and then when January starts off dull and grey and miserable, it is easy to feel low. Hope you have a lovely weekend too x

  4. The normality is great isn’t it….I’m still not back into the swing of the things with the girls starting back at school on Tuesday but we’re getting there….

    1. I think it does take a little while to get back into it all – we started back on Tuesday as well which meant I spent most of the week still getting confused as to what day it was!

  5. Hi Louise, I have yet to face the January slump as the schools only went back today and we’ve yet to take the decorations down. The tree is still twinkling as I type, but it’s hours are numbered!

Your girls are cute, so I can imagine how much cuter they were greeting each other after school. I bet it made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

    xx

    1. I can imagine that the decorations being up for a little longer helps ease the transition into January. It does make me so happy to see how loving the girls are when they greet each other at pick-up time, it’s such a lovely moment 🙂

  6. I’ve loved seeing your gratitude posts of Facebook – and you totally notice more when you start noting it. Have a fab weekend, am looking forward to seeing your years worth of photos x #wotw

    1. Thanks Stephanie – I’m really enjoying looking out for things to be grateful for each day 🙂

  7. There is something to be said about getting back to normal, but after Christmas I too often find it more difficult to adjust to the quietness when people go back to school/work/nursery and it does take a few days. Glad you’re over the bumpy part.
I love how the girls greet each other so enthusiastically after nursery with big hugs. This is the cutest thing and whenever I see it with mine it just melts my heart. Best of luck with your #366 photos, it’s such a lovely idea to do and it’ll be brilliant to look back on at the end of the year.

    1. The quietness is hard to adjust too – I think it’s part of the reason for feeling a bit low at the start of January and it does take a while to get used to the normal routine again. The #366daysofgratitude challenge is something I’m really enjoying – as you say, it will be great to look back on it all at the end of the year 🙂

    1. Thanks Catherine – it’s taken a few days to adjust to being back to normal but I’m enjoying having a routine again 🙂

  8. We have the same word of the week. Such a great word after the madness of Christmas ;0) We had boxes that we had to unpack too, we had only lived in the house for four years lol. I’m glad the girls are loving the return of their classes x

    1. Lol, glad it’s not just us that takes years to finish unpacking boxes! It is nice to get back into normal routines again, isn’t it? 🙂

  9. I love getting back into normality although not a fan of G being at school – miss her when she isn’t around. Love the photo looking down the lane. Thank you for sharing in #HappyDaysLinky x

  10. I love finding places to explore with the children! My youngest is always so happy to see N when we get him from preschool. N on the orpther hand just tries to hide! Thanks for joining us for #HappyDaysLinky x
