Friday Focus 03/07/2026 – Excited

July is here and I have a very excited boy who is counting down the days, hours and minutes until his birthday later this month. There’s been other moments of excitement this week, with the start of the fun end-of-term activities, trying out new things and looking forward to new adventures and challenges.

The word 'excited' in orange bubble writing

Thomas had his last session in Anchors at Boys’ Brigade on Friday. Tonight is the awards evening for Brigades’ where he’ll get his badges for the year and will be promoted to the Junior section. He’s loved his time in Anchors and is excited about having his first session in Juniors next week.

Sophie has been excited about having sports day at school this week and having her first ski lesson. Her team won the skipping relay which she took part in. She also took part in the Year 7 Latin drama competition which her form won.

She’s also excited that lots of people are coming to see her in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang this weekend, with several family members coming tomorrow (including all the grandparents) and her godmother and former Girls’ Brigade leader coming on Sunday.

What I’ve been grateful for this week:

Thomas building a tower with Jenga bricks; the beach ball in our paddling pool; Thomas at his Boys' Brigade trip; my rehearsal bag with various show patches; my badge for finishing the French course on Duolingo; Sophie in her ski clothes; blue skies - "#365daysofgratitude 2026 - Week 26"

  • Day 177 – I am grateful for how much Thomas has enjoyed his time in Anchors and for all the support that has helped him get so much out of his time there. Tonight was his last session before moving up to Juniors. Another little milestone moment.

  • Day 178 – I am grateful for time cooling off in the paddling pool.

  • Day 179 – I am grateful that Thomas enjoyed an afternoon at Ruislip Lido with the Brigades.

  • Day 180 – I am grateful for a few more patches on my rehearsal bag.

  • Day 181 – I am grateful for Duolingo.

  • Day 182 – I am grateful that Sophie enjoyed her first ski lesson to prepare for next year’s school ski trip.

  • Day 183 – I am grateful for blue skies and sunshine.

Other things that have made me smile this week:

  • Thomas wishing me a “happy July”.

  • Reading another lovely review mentioning Sophie’s performance in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
