Creating a nature collage in the garden – the Spring edition

Earlier in the year, we created a nature collage in the garden. The girls’ twin cousins recently visited us from Luxembourg and Grandma had planned a lunch for everyone in the garden. It was the perfect opportunity to repeat it and see the four cousins getting creative together.

Creating a nature collage in the garden - one of our favourite outdoor activities

The thing I love most about this activity is how easy it is to set up.  I taped two large sheets of coloured card inside the tuff spot, drizzled PVA glue across them and then left the girls to find whatever objects they wanted to stick to the cardboard.

The Easter buckets from our Easter egg hunt were very useful for helping to carry objects. The twins decided to head further down the garden to find items to add to the collage. Jessica and Sophie were happy just to collect what they could find nearby though.

It was lovely to see the four girls so engrossed in sticking the various items they found on to the pieces of paper. Each pair of siblings focused on sticking items on to one piece of coloured card which was interesting. The twins went for the purple sheet and my two girls focused on the aqua one.

Comparing the nature collages created in Winter and in Spring

It is also interesting to compare these collages to the one my girls did back in January.  Although there are still quite a few brown leaves on these ones, the latest ones are much more green.  Jessica and Sophie’s collage is nearly all grass apart from a few stones and a couple of twigs.

Collecting up pine cones in Grandma's garden

As well as creating nature collages, there were plenty of other fun activities to do.  Jessica thoroughly enjoyed collecting up all the fir cones that she found lying on the ground and putting them in a box for Grandma.  Sophie loved having the pop-up tunnel out and the pop-up ball pond was fun too. Trying trying to find all the balls scattered around the garden when it was time to go was not quite so much fun though!

Grandma’s drive was perfect for a game of piggy in the middle too.  The girls had a lovely time seeing their cousins. It was nice to be able to make the most of the sunny weather and spend the day outside too.

  1. The collage looks like a very clever but simple activity to do! Also really good that you can look back and compare the ones you did in Janauary and compare the seasons. Looks like they had a lot of fun with their cousins coming over 🙂 #whatevertheweather

  2. Interesting to see the difference a few months make. Their collecting skills, or is that foraging, have improved too. A perfect outdoor activity. Nice having time with cousins too. #CountryKids
