Since 2016, I have taken part in a daily gratitude challenge, sharing a photo of one thing I am thankful for each day on Instagram. There have been days when finding little things to be grateful for has been very easy to do and others when it has been incredibly hard. Life as a bereaved parent is quite a rollercoaster at times. There have been many moments when I don’t feel grateful for anything at all – just broken and bruised. However, looking for those little moments has helped me even on the darkest of days. Hard though it may be at times, I have always managed to find something to be thankful for.
My eldest daughter Jessica was an inspiration to me throughout her short life. She had so much strength and such a wonderful zest for life. Her godmother described her once as a “joy carrier” and it was the perfect description for her. She was a little ray of sunshine, full of smiles and gave joy to all who knew her. I am, and will always be, grateful to be her mummy. She taught me to enjoy the little moments and to make the most of everyday because tomorrow is never promised. I continue with this challenge in honour of my beautiful brave girl.

Day 167 – I am grateful that my children have such a lovely daddy. Father’s Day isn’t an easy day for a bereaved dad. We miss Jessica every minute of every day and although Sophie and I have done our best to make sure Jessica is part of today, that empty space in our family is always there. We filled a book with photos, handprints from all three children, and drawings from both Jessica and Sophie to make a special Father’s Day present. Also thinking of my lovely dad today too. Give Jessica a big cuddle for me, Dad. Love and miss you both so very much xxx
Day 168 – I am grateful for a much-needed nap snuggled up with this gorgeous boy.
Day 169 – I am grateful that Sophie is enjoying getting to know some of the songs from my favourite musical.
Day 170 – I am grateful for my graphics tablet which makes it much easier to get my doodles on to the computer!
Day 171 – I am grateful for mobile hairdressers and getting my hair cut for the first time in well over a year!
Day 172 – I am grateful for these beautiful flowers. What a lovely surprise it was to see these on the doorstep after getting back from the school fayre this afternoon.
Day 173 – I am grateful for a milestone moment – Thomas pulling himself up on to his feet and standing for the first time! Clever boy!
