10 reasons why I’m #RockingMotherhood

Mummy guilt. We all struggle with it. That little voice in our head that tells us that we’re not doing a good enough job and reminds us of the many ways in which we get things wrong. None of us are perfect. None of us live up to the ideal of parenthood that we aim for. We’re just ordinary people, with our faults and our flaws, muddling along in this challenging world of parenthood as best we can. Trying to ignore that little voice that says we’re not enough.

#RockingMotherhood is a fabulous tag created by Pat at White Camellias. It’s all about finding and sharing ten ways in which we have this crazy journey called parenthood nailed and kicking mummy guilt well and truly up the backside. I’ve seen quite a few posts sharing the reasons why bloggers are #RockingMotherhood and loved reading them. Now it’s my turn to join in, thanks to the lovely Sarah from Mum & Mor who tagged me in her post. Here are my ten reasons why I’m a fab mummy and totally #RockingMotherhood

Me and my girls: 10 reasons why I'm #RockingMotherhood

1) Not a single day goes by without me telling my children just how much I love them and how precious they are to me.

2) Since the day I first became a heart mummy, I have discovered a strength I never knew I possessed. I have learned how to be strong for my child when I am sick with fear inside. Handing over my daughter to a surgeon and knowing he was going to stop her heart has been one of the most frightening things I’ve ever had to do. To be able to calmly sing my child to sleep on a theatre trolley and hold my tears back until I was out of sight was incredibly hard but I knew I had to be strong for her. I know I can be strong if I have to be.

3) I am happy to have a poor night’s sleep if it means my babies feel safe and secure snuggled up with me in my bed. I quite like the snuggles too if I’m honest!

4) My children’s needs come before anything else. I will go without if necessary to give them what they need.

5) We spend lots of time out and about together creating memories and having mini adventures. I want my children to grow up with a love for the great outdoors and to be able to find beauty in the little things around them.

6) My girls are polite, kind, friendly, loving and happy little girls. They can be little imps at times (as can all children!) but they can also be utterly delightful and a joy to be around. I have learned so much about love and forgiveness just from watching my children and their approach to the world.

7) Hubby works long and unpredictable hours and is often away working on events – I am on my own with the girls a lot. I’ve got very used to juggling everything myself. Most of the time I do a pretty good job of it.

8) I keep a journal for each of my girls and each month, I write them a little letter in it for them to read when they are older. It’s my way of remembering the little moments and reflecting on the little milestones and the things we’ve done together each month.

9) I am always trying to learn from my mistakes. I am far from perfect and my short fuse is probably my biggest challenge when it comes to parenthood, but I am always trying to find ways in which I can learn a little more patience and manage those challenges in a better way.

10) I make up silly songs for my girls. We have songs for drying off after a bath, songs for changing nappies, songs about tidying up, songs about Jessica, songs about Sophie – whatever we do, I can make up a song about it!

Mummy guilt is a force to be reckoned with and finding ten things wasn’t easy. It’s been a good reminder that I’m not doing a bad job at this parenthood lark though!

  4. This is such a lovely post Louise and thank you so much for taking part. I agree, it’s definitely not easy to kick guilt out of the way and concentrate on what we are doing well which is exactly why this tag was created 🙂 I think you are very strong indeed. I have no idea how I would deal with one of my children having a heart condition but you sure are an inspiration to me. Love the diary with the letter for the girls. Such a sweet idea. They will treasure it for sure when they are older. You are definitely #RockingMotherhood

    1. Thank you so much Pat for creating the tag – it’s such a lovely one to take part in. It’s amazing what you can deal with when you have to – I would never have thought I could have dealt with what we’ve been through over the last six years but it’s all worth it to see how well Jessica is doing now x

  5. Thank you for taking up the challenge. You definitely rock at motherhood. I don’t know how I’d cope if my husband had to go away for days on end, or if my daughter had heart problems. You’re so strong!

    1. Thank you for tagging me and for your lovely comment Sarah. It’s funny I would never describe myself as being especially strong but it is amazing what you deal with when you have to. I think you do amazingly well having relocated to a new country – that’s a huge thing to do! x
