The Friday Focus 28/08/15

With all the rain this week, we’ve been spending a lot of time indoors doing crafts together. Our theme for the week has been “mini-beasts” and we’ve been creating ladybirds and butterflies out of paper plates, spiders and caterpillars from egg boxes and pipe cleaners and various mini-beasts out of the foam shapes that came with the latest issue of the CBeebies Art magazine. Jessica is at her happiest when “doing some making” and it is lovely to see Sophie being able to join in more and more with this too.

We also got creative and messy at the Innocent fruit and veg fest event that we were invited to earlier this week and the girls enjoyed paint printing with pieces of potato, carrot, broccoli and sweetcorn and creating funny faces out of raw veg. The painting was very, very messy and I was quite glad that I had packed a couple of coverall bibs in the change bag!

Things I have loved this week:

  • Spending a sunny afternoon at Grandma and Grandad’s house and watching the girls having fun in their lovely big garden.

  • Watching the girls having fun with fruit and veg and getting to catch up with some lovely blogging friends at the #InnocentFiveADay Fruit and Veg fest.
  • Going out for a meal with friends for hubby’s birthday.

  • Playing cars and trains on the floor having got our VTech Toot Toot Train and Garage set out for the first time in ages.
  • Being back at Tinytalk toddler signing classes and seeing how happy the girls were to be back.
  • Having a funny competition with the girls to see who could do the loudest dinosaur roar – think we failed on the scary front though as even my loudest attempt just made the girls giggle!

    1. Thanks Sarah – was lovely to join in with your guest post series, thank you for having me 🙂

  3. Well done to you for keeping the kids entertained despite all the rain we’ve had this week and belated birthday wishes to your hubby.

  4. Dinosaurs are our thing at the moment, too, although we’re learning all their names (it’s harder than it sounds!) I may give your ROAR game a go!
Love your crafting & I can see the girls really enjoy it

    1. Thanks Tracey – am sure Little Mister and Mademoiselle would have great fun having a dinosaur roaring competition! x

  5. This bad weather is a theme among everyone’s weeks & now the summer is over – it’s madness. We have had constant rain & have been doing lots of crafts too. Looks like a fun birthday dinner for your husband! #HappyDays x

    1. It does feel like summer ended a little too abruptly doesn’t it? Thank goodness for crafts helping to keep the children occupied on rainy days though.

  6. Sounds like you had a very creative and fun week. Love the caterpillars but not sure about those spiders eeeek! #happydays

  7. looks like a fab week, I hope you enjoyed your meal and I so miss crafting with the boys we do bit but they are not as interested any more. Sometimes Joe will craft for while until he gets bored ha ha x

    1. Thanks Sarah – will have to make the most of the crafting time while they are still little enough to want to do it with me 🙂

  8. What a fab week. All that crafting sounds fab, I keep meaning to do potato stamping with Oliver. We have that toot toot train set too, provides hours of fun 🙂

  9. Ahhh your mini beasts look brilliant and I love the photo of the girls getting stuck into their painting. As far as I’m concerned, if you haven’t got paint on you’re face, you’re not doing it right. 😉

Bet it was lovely to go for a meal with your friends. I recognise those hats. Chiquitos?

Thanks for joining our #HappyDaysLinky xx
