Siblings – April 2017

It has been wonderful having both my girls at home all day for the Easter holidays. I can’t quite believe that my big girl is now two-thirds of the way through her Reception year. It really does seem only yesterday that I dropped her off at school for the first time and shed a few tears, wondering how my baby was big enough to be at school. Now, school is part of our normal routine.

I might have got used to the normal routine of school days but it is lovely to step out of that routine and enjoy the holidays. To wake up in the morning and not have to rush around. To be able to take life at a slightly more leisurely pace. Two weeks of being able to go out and about together. Seeing two little sisters enjoying being reunited – playing together, exploring together and having so much fun. Of course, there have been squabbles and tears, and moments when I want to pull my hair out, but the nice moments have outweighed the challenging ones.

Our Easter holidays are almost at an end. They’ve not been perfect – life isn’t perfect and each day brings ups and downs. But when I look back over the last two weeks, the stressful moments melt away and all I really remember is the happy moments. Two little girls laughing in the playground. Two little girls sitting at the table, lost in their own world of make-believe as they play together. These are the moments that I will treasure. If only I could freeze them and slow down time sometimes!

Jessica (5 years 7 months)

  • Enjoyed dressing up in red for Red Nose Day at school.
  • Is becoming more confident at the playground and loves the swings. I’m not sure we can push them high enough for her liking!
  • Has finally learned how to ride a bike. The effort of pushing the pedals around has always been a bit of a struggle but Jessica has finally got the hang of it.
  • Was featured in Candis magazine sharing her story as part of an update on the Big Give campaign for Action Medical Research.
  • Is sleeping in her own bed more and more. She still occasionally climbs in our bed for a snuggle but will often decide she’s more comfortable in her own bed and make her way back to her own bed by herself.
  • Is now five years on from her most recent heart surgery. She’s doing well although I am becoming aware that her energy levels are not quite what they were a year ago.

Sophie (3 years 5 months)

  • Was very excited about meeting the Gruffalo at Chessington World of Adventures.
  • Loved performing in her first Easter concert at preschool. She had a big grin on her face all the way through!
  • Knows just how to turn on the charm. One minute she can be a little pickle, the next she gives me the most beautiful smile, a big hug and says “aw Mummy, you happy now?”
  • Loves picking dandelions and daisies in the garden and bringing them indoors to give to her dollies.
  • Is very particular about things being put away in the right place when tidying up. If Jessica puts something in the wrong place, Sophie soon tells her off!
  • Has also learned how to ride a bike.

  5. Their matching coats are adorable and look at their happy faces. I bet they have a ball together. I feel the same here, as soon as school starts everything seems to roll way too fast and they grow up way too fast on me too.#siblingsproject
