Seeing the Christmas lights

After being cooped up at home for most of the week due to Sophie being poorly, it was a relief to finally get out of the house towards the end of the week and go into town to have lunch with Grandma and do a bit of shopping. Both Jessica and Sophie needed new shoes so we bought a lovely pair of warm winter boots for Jessica and a very pretty pair of shoes for Sophie (as there were no winter boots small enough for her tiny feet).

Country Kids 06-12-14 01Jessica enjoyed having a lovely long walk around the shops and seeing the Christmas lights. It is really starting to get cold now but she was lovely and snug in her cosy hat and winter coat!

There is an outdoor ice rink in the town at the moment so we watched the people skating for a while. The town ice-rink has some happy memories for me – it was whilst ice-skating on that rink almost exactly six years ago that Michael presented me with an engagement rink. His original intention was to skate over to me and go down on one knee but unfortunately his skating skills are not the best and he ended up falling over instead and being helped up by the marshals whilst I remained oblivious to his plans. In the end he just stood at the side, waited for me to skate towards him and then pulled the box out of his pocket. A magical moment!

Friday Focus 05-12-14 07After we had finished our wander around the town and looking at all the Christmas lights, we finished off by popping into a café and having some cake as Sophie had fallen asleep in her buggy – this seems to be becoming a bit of a habit lately!

  1. What wonderful memories of that ice rink for you, thought the skidding over at the crucial moment made me smile! The girls look like they enjoyed their visit to the town with all the Christmas lights and glad Sophie is better now. I’m looking forward to taking my gang to see the city lights and ice rink next weekend in Plymouth. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

  2. Wow that must be special showing the ice skating rink to your children! I’m desperate to find an ice skating rink somewhere near us here in south-east England as my two started learning and taking lessons when we were living in the US.

    1. Thank you – it was lovely. There are often some outdoor ones in big towns and cities this time of year although finding a year-round one may be a little harder 0 good luck and hope you manage to find one nearby.

  3. What a lovely outing, seeing the Christmas lights is such a lovely thing to do, always gets me in the Christmas spirit. Your proposal story made me smile, certainly a memorable moment for both of you 🙂 Skating is huge over here, but we haven’t taken the kids yet. Temporary ice rinks pop up all over the place for the winter here! #CountryKids
