Hello I’m Laura and I blog over at dear bear and beany. I started by blog in January after thinking about doing it for far too long. I love to write about our life and the ups and downs of being a mummy. I have fallen in love with blogging.
1) Tell us a little bit about you and your family
I have been married to Andy for nearly six years. We became parents to Alice in 2012 and Holly joined us in 2014. There is 2 years and 10 days between my girls and our family is complete.
2) How would you describe your parenting style?
I am just like my star sign, Gemini, I have two sides to my parenting. I am definitely firm with them, especially as Alice has got older and she has need more guidance and support to understand what is right and wrong. We have our routine, which helps us all.
But, then the other side of me sometimes just throws it all out the window and we go off out for the day and we blow away the cobwebs from our daily routine.
3) What’s your favourite thing about being a parent?
When I sit back and just watch them, I still have to pinch myself that they are mine. That we have shaped them to be the little people they are. I feel so blessed to be a mummy to my girls and so very proud of them.
4) What piece of advice have you been given that you found especially helpful?
To believe in myself. That no one knows what is best for my girls and our family better than Andy and me.
5) What one piece of encouraging advice would you give to a new parent?
You will hear the words ‘it’s a phase’ said a lot and sometimes it can feel like an excuse or an easy answer to what you are dealing with at that moment. But, after nearly four years of parenting I can assure you that most things are a phase and yes, sometimes they might be a really long phase and you will feel like that is your life forever, it won’t be. It just feels really tough when you are in it!
6) Can you share one of your favourite parenting moments?
The moment Alice and Holly met for the first time. My parents brought Alice to the hospital and it really was such a special moment, the look of love on Alice’s face I will carry with me forever.
7) Anything else that you would like to share to encourage other parents?
I didn’t really read parenting books for advice. But a friend recommended The Wonder Weeks book to me and I did find this useful. It shares with you when they are having a development leap and what that can mean for them. It helped me understand why I was seeing changes in them at certain times.
