From the mouths of babes #83

From the mouths of babes is a weekly linky which invites you to share a post, old or new, about something your children have said. Those adorable mispronounced words, the glimpses into their imaginations, the blunt observations – whatever it is, I’d love to hear about it!

A big thank you to everyone who linked up last week. Life is Knutts had me laughing out loud with her son’s new name for Virginia Water and I loved Our Cherry Tree’s selection of toddler jokes even if I didn’t quite get all of the punchlines!

Jessica listening to CBeebies on her "earmuffles" on the train with the text "From the mouths of babes #83 - On the train"

We spent a lot of time on trains last week as we travelled from Land’s End to John O’Groats.  Sophie was very excited as we got ready to go and kept telling us over and over again that we were “going on a ‘venture!”

The girls were both so good on the trains and coped really well with travelling on the whole.  I have to confess that we did keep them occupied with iPads a lot of the time (especially on the 11-hour journey from Penzance to Edinburgh!)  We made sure we downloaded their favourite CBeebies programmes and had headphones for them so they could listen without disturbing other passengers.  Whenever Jessica wanted to watch CBeebies, she would ask us for her “earmuffles” which very rapidly became the word we all used for headphones!

The “earmuffles” were only partially successful in reducing the noise of the CBeebies programmes – Jessica loves to sing along to the various theme tunes and I don’t think she realised quite how loudly she was singing them!

As the train passed along the coast, we were very close to the sea at times.  “Look Mummy, the train is on the beach!” Jessica kept telling me.

Sophie quite enjoyed reading the books in her rucksack, although the titles weren’t quite as I remember:

Me: “Sophie, what books have you got?”

Sophie: “Punzel and Red Riding Whore”

We did try to get her to say “Hood” instead although it mostly comes out as “Hod” instead!

I think overall both the girls enjoyed going on our adventure – as we stepped off the train on our arrival home on Friday morning, Jessica said “Mummy, how many sleeps until we go on a train again?”

If you have any posts about something that your children have been saying lately, please do come and link up. The linky opens each Monday from 6am and closes on Friday at 11pm so there is plenty of time to link up your posts (old and new posts are welcome!). Please add the badge below to your post so others know where they can also link up (the badge code is below). I will also try and share posts via Twitter – please use the hashtag #ftmob and I’ll do my best to retweet them. I also have a Pinterest board and will be sharing posts here too.

Looking forward to reading what your little ones have been saying!

  1. Ha ha I can just imagine Sophie shouting Red Riding Whore at the top of her voice on a packed train.

    Ear muffles is brilliant.

    Thanks for hosting.

    1. It did make me chuckle. I love ear muffles – sounds much more fun that headphones 🙂

  2. Haha loving the Red Riding Whore!!! Sorry I missed last week – had a great one to link up and it took me ages too, then my youngest decided he didn’t want me to publish it on my blog as it was ‘too embarrassing’! Never mind xx

    1. Thank you Cal – fair enough if your youngest didn’t want you to share! Lovely to have you this week 🙂
